Titles within Machines of Perpetual Motion (series):
Carillon - (30k and counting)
An urban fantasy novel(?) set in the early 2000s. Features a cast of four main protags that come from wildly different walks of life. The story is told in the 3rd person POV of Martin Sallow, a green haired freak with freckles and an anxiety disorder or two. He picks up his life and leaves town after contracting Revenant's Disease, (a late gift from his father, a man that he has no recollection of), and sets off to put things back into balance. Little does he know that he has bitten off far more than he can chew, and soon he will find himself doing things that previously only existed in his mind as nightmare fuel.
This is my most worked on solo project so far, expect many posts related to it.
The Body Lies; /Solivagant/ - (unwritten)
A nomadic necromancer in Canada has their life thrust into motion after they meet one very strange zealot, Amaya. When her past comes back for more, Otto finds themself struggling against Amaya's old grudges in ways that were never expected. Rage burns brightest in abandonment, and the couple may have to give up their life together to put an end to old mistakes. Also, plenty of cannibalism occurs.
This one is still in the development process, but it has a decent amount of plot within it already. I plan to focus on it more as Carillon continues.
St. Peter Sings Coyote - (unwritten)
A southern train-hopper takes an accidental trip to Mexico, narrowly avoiding a religious war. Oblivious to the horror they've left behind, they begin to delve into the strange events that have been occuring around the small town they're stranded in; only to be knocked back into reality as the war slowly seeps into the desert they now call home.
Very underdeveloped. One of my newer projects, I plan on fleshing (literal) it out a bit in the future.

A small-town horror story about a child that could not be helped. A take on the concept of "female hysteria," child abuse, and mental illness. More of a political commentary than a fictional story, but it still qualifies as magical realism.
Project: Headlights - (unwritten)
In a very classic sci-fi setting, big computers now run most of the world's processes. One very successful developer, Az Osborne, has dedicated his life to the computers that he's created. Only, he desires to give them a life of their own, and is willing to sacrifice his own to achieve this. His devoted apprentice, Simon Cadaver, now carries the weight of this project on his shoulders. And he may find that the weight is far too heavy.
I Beheaded Mercy - (unwritten)
An average man, Eddie Achaeus finds himself unsatisfied with his life. His one true love, a girl he's never met, drives him to better himself. But without a strong foundation, he's sure to crumble. He's always found dogs to be man's best friend, and desires to live a life of natural balance. But the bitterness within him is all human, and it may not find the transition to be all that easy. And he finds that the love he so longs for drifting away from him with ease.

I love characters with tunnel vision. False dichotomies. The sunk cost fallacy. Characters who are convinced of their utmost rationality and can even lay out their entire philosophy in logical, impersonal terms and convince others even though the whole of their actions, rationalised to hell and back though they may be, are spurred on by something entirely emotional (and this doesn't stop them from being right on the money about some things). Characters who are at once the most and least self-aware people ever. Characters who know the ins and outs of their psyche like a map they've memorised but can barely tell when they're experiencing a feeling.
Chimera is a vaguely inhuman creature. It is from America (though he is part Czechoslovakian.)
He is a witch, and his magik is slowly eating away at not only its sanity but its physical being as well. Not that he cares. He has better things to worry about.
Chimera stands at 177.8 cm, 5'10, and it is very thin and pale. He almost looks sickly. His hair is extremely long, reaching a little farther than waist length, and its a beautiful white/gray color. His eyes are a bright gold, though one is noticeably whiter than the other- like cataracts, and it is partially blind. It often wears a blindfold, as he really has no need to see with the magik he works with.
Has an absolutely AWFUL resting face.
As it hardly ever wears shirts, you can clearly see his ribs. Not just the outline of it under thin skin, but there is quite literally a glowing pit in his chest that you can see his sternum/ribs through. Along with this, it also has strangely shaped scars on its hands and arms, slightly purple and dull in color.
Generally doesn't care for body modifications, as it feels like its body is an already perfect vessel.
Though he does have a tattoo. A half-moon with an upsidedown cross going through it, for the coven he grew up in.
Chimera is not the most sane individual, as stated before his magik is grating on his mind. Necromancy will do that, I suppose.
Generally he is very prideful and pessimistic, with hubris often being his downfall. It isnt all that talkative, despite hanging out with several other witches and warlocks. Much rather to stay inside with his BELOVED little owlbear (cat? small griffin?? idk.)
Her name is Sonnet. Despite her species shes only about the size of a house cat.
Even though he swears he doesn't have, nor need, friends. He does. Even if most of those friends are dead. Though most people aren't fond of him, due to his spiteful nature and habit for blasphemy. Extremely egotistical and eccentric, and cares little for the safety of both himself and others.
Despite all his flaws (some of which I didn't list,) he isn't in need of a redemption arc, as he isn't an antagonist.
Specifically, with what's wrong with it, I couldn't really tell you. It likely has NPD and OCD. He also, ironically enough, suffers from Thanatophobia. For non-mental disorders, it has pretty bad insomnia, per consequence of constantly talking with the dead.
Chimera is an enjoyer of: bugs (like centipedes & maggots,) fashion, cemeteries. His spellbook. Religion
He DISLIKES: being touched, getting up in the mornings. Being talked over/ ignored
EXTRA: Chimera is a witch who specializes in necromancy! But it dabbles in tarot readings as well. They're known as The Prophet for a reason.

The setting is a slightly futuristic New York City. However, the future isnt how everyone thought— no flying cars or aliens, just the developing of psychic abilities. There's two sides to every conflict: on one hand, some who possess these abilities live their lives as normal, using these as plusses. However, not everyone believes in this. Numerous, underground cults form around those who possess these powers.
When Myia's father falls ill, she uncovers a family secret: the money her family has found is from one of these cults, and Myia is set to run it once her father passes on. So, she and her closest friend, who she finds out was in this cult Bella Danvers, run away. Once gone, members start hunting the pair down, and they realize the truth behind the psychic abilities bestowed upon them. Not everywhere nor everyone has these powers, so they go where they hope no one will find out.
Bella and Myia must start new lives, while not being found out.
Okay but jokes aside, when it comes to demon possession, "odd or abnormal behaviour" means abnormal for this specific individual. Everyone knows about the stereotypical symptoms like talking backwards or walking on the ceiling, and jokes about how you'd know that someone who's incredibly weird by nature would probably start acting more normal if they got possessed, but apparently it's not common knowledge that this counts as abnormal behaviour. Like obviously someone who's been strange as hell their entire life hasn't been possessed this entire time, but if you know someone who is odd, and has always been odd, you might want to start asking questions if they suddenly start doing things you've never seen them do before, like sitting on chairs the normal way, or using kitchen utensils for their intended purpose.

Ethel Reid Hagley Sutton // 20, as of February 2003 // he/they // gay(?)
Reid is a... very young man, for what he's been through. Raised in a small religious town in Oregon with his mother and The Church. He, too, is a ghost hunter.
Reid stands at 170.18 cm, or 5'7, and he is a very frail man. Skinny and pale, with gaunt features- very sickly looking, almost as bad as Johnny. They have this.. hollow look to them, like something was taken out of him and he can never get it back. His body is covered in different types of scars; most notably, a roughly torn gouge in the side of his cheek. You can see his teeth through it.
It's self inflicted, but he doesn't remember when he did it. He hardly even felt it when it happened. technical autocannibalism.
His eyes are a bright amber color, and he has anisocoria (causing his pupils to be unequal sizes.) His hair is black and choppily cut, like he did it himself.
He doesn't have any tattoos and for the most part refuses to get them. Same goes for piercings.
Reid has a relatively fragile mental state, due to his childhood. And this has affected his personality, of course.
He's a pretty loud person, but despite this he's very closed off and antisocial. He doesn't enjoy interacting with his colleagues, just as they don't enjoy interacting with him. He is vain, selfish and lacks any sympathy (even towards himself.)
He doesn't have many friends, if any at all. Nobody in the office likes them. Especially not Mattie (; my dear friend @synostosic) who cannot be around Reid AT ALL lest he literally kill them. Why? Because Reid tried to kill Mattie's bestfriend on their first day of the job.
Despite all the flaws plus the trying to kill and eat his coworker thing, Reid does get a redemption. Even if it is long after the canon storyline has ended.
What specifically is wrong with Reid I'm actually not too sure. He has religious trauma, of course. On account of being raised in a cult that they only recently got out of. Anything other than that is beyond me, but will probably get discussed in an eventual backstory post. (for non-mental illnesses, he has CIPA)
