coincidence is rough
My grandmother died in her 90s in 2022. The last few years of her life, she needed assistance and couldn't really live on her own, but assisted living was too expensive and nursing homes weren't an acceptable option to much of anyone. So her son, his wife, and their daughter (in her late 40s) mostly helped take care of her. And they all did badly, the The granddaughter stole from her. The son behaved badly, refusing to take her to the doctor when she had what turned out to be pneumonia. APS was called but she got to the doctor and was treated and things went back as they were until a last crisis, and then she couldn't go home at all.
The next year, the son's wife died suddenly. Not a full year after that, the house he lived in with the adult daughter burned down and they lost everything. The next year, the adult daughter died.
Last night, for reasons I don't really understand (feeling kind of depressed and missing people, I guess) I lit a little tea candle for my grandmother and hoped she had/has peace. This is not a thing I ever do. There is no family or cultural tradition for it.
Today my uncle died.
