• ( sophia bush, cis female, she/her, forty two) look who goes there! is that lila valera? i’ve seen them often around saddle grove, which may be because they are a owner @ nonna’s kitchen. they’ve been in town for ten years and i’ve known them to be loyal but also stubborn. for some reason, beautiful things by benson boone reminds me of them, as well as roasting marshmallows under the starlight & riding on horseback after a rough day.

biography:
lila grew up around her italian grandmother. she spent as much time as she possibly could in the kitchen with her, learning all of her recipes and learning all of the secrets. she was a very playful child, and always laughed with everything she did. feeding people became something very special for her and she continues to do it now, every day. school was very difficult for lila. very early on, she found out she was dyslexic, and as a result, struggled with tests, with reading, and with everything that had to do with school. but she always found safety and solace in cooking. the second she graduated high school, barely making it out, she went to culinary school.
the most difficult part was leaving her grandmother and her horses. lila grew up around horses, her parents having tons of them. they were her best friends. when she wasn't in a kitchen, she was out riding horses. riding them gave her recipe ideas, fun names for dishes, and just made her feel safe and free. she loved anything that allowed her a creative outlet, or just the space to breathe.
because of her grandmother, lila grew up very stubborn. she learned not to take no for an answer unless she got the chance to say her side first and present her case. this resulted in her always wanting to talk about something, never giving in the first time.
like a horse, she is very loyal, always there for you if you need her. she's playful and silly, and always looking to make you feel like family.
when she graduated culinary school, she worked at other restaurants for a few years, but something always kept pulling her back. she wasn't sure if it was the horses or her grandmother. ultimately it was the slow decline of health in her grandmother, her protector, and the one person she'd always looked up to. so lila moved back, bought nonna's, simply adoring the name as it related to what she called her grandmother, and stayed by her side until she passed eight years ago. lila now cooks for her, loving every moment of it. she uses her grandmother's recipes, each month, changing it up, doing a different recipe that she was taught.

Genevieve and Lila have been spending an awful lot of time together and she really enjoyed the woman’s company. Not only was she drop dead gorgeous but she is also one of the most successful people in bear creek due to the fact that she owns her own restaurant. Gen had finished cleaning her place up and ordered a dozen roses for the other to be delivered to her place for when she arrived and picked up her phone and texted the other. “Hey gorgeous, you coming over tonight.”? She asked and hit send.
☆゚*·゚LILA WIPED DOWN the stove at Nonna's, glad that she'd been able to close at a reasonable time that night. Her staff was well versed and quick enough that night to clean as they went. Anything else could be done in the morning. Orders could be done in the morning too. As she dropped the cloth in the mop bucket, she felt her phone buzz in her pocket. Pulling it out, she saw Genevieve's name pop up on her phone. Immediately, a smile grew across her face. They'd been spending more time together than Lila had originally expected, and she loved every second of it. They meshed so well together, and it was safe to say that Lila had a little crush. Opening her message, she bit her lip, texting back, repeating it out loud to make sure she spelled correctly. "You bet! Can't wait to see you. Can I bring you a dessert from the restaurant?"
𝐖𝐇𝐎 : open to anyone ! ( 2 / 3 )
𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 : nighttime, half past ten.
𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 : the curb outside neon rainbow.
she ought to just go home. least, that's what she tells herself, sitting perched on the curb outside the bar, head between her knees. not cause she's drunk, no. after one rum and coke? she wasn't even close. but, cause a couple of her ex's friends showed up at the bar after tess finished that single rum and coke. and, the last thing tess needed was her ex getting a report that tess was spotted sitting alone at the bar, looking sorry as shit for herself.
was she? feeling sorry for herself? fuck, probably. she spent a lot of time doing that these days. but that wasn't the point. the point was that her ex didn't need to know she was. so, tess slunk out the front door ( hopefully ) without being noticed, and made camp on the front stoop.
not like she should be surprised they'd show up there. not really. it's not like tess got their favorite bar in the divorce. just the shop, and what was left of her dignity. the thought makes her laugh. a dry, choked noise that catches in her throat. "fuck, man," she mumbles to herself, and looks up. finally looks up. she reaches into the front pocket of her shirt to fish out the half-finished packed of american spirits tucked there, flips open the lid, and pulls out the lucky, sliding it between her lips. figures, she could use all the luck she could get right now.
she reaches back into the pocket then, fingers scissoring around for the lighter. and then, remembers: she'd lent her lighter to one of her clients at the shop earlier today. they'd never returned it. tess groans, cigarette still dangling from her lips. then, returns the cigarettes to their rightful place in her pocket, and stands.
"hey, 'scuse me," she turns just in time to catch someone walking by. going into the bar, or just passing by, it doesn't matter to her. what matters is the unlit cigarette clenched between her front teeth. "sorry to bother you, friend. but, uh, you got a light, maybe?" she thinks, she sounds a bit pathetic. maybe it's just in her head, but she can practically hear the scrunch between her eyebrows, and the twinkle ( or lack there of ) in her eyes that just screams, have pity on me, please! she grimaces at the thought, then quickly fixes her face, doing her best not to offend.
☆゚*·゚ON OCCASION, AFTER a rough night, when customers, or tourists usually were particularly troublesome, Lila liked to frequent bars. Any kind of bar that would serve her a drink and get her mind off the horrible experiences. While today wasn't the worst it could be, when a customer questions your recipe because they're also Italian, you kind of want to punt them across the restaurant and out the door. Every Nonna has a different recipe, they should've known that by now. So, as she walked toward the bars, eyes drifting up to the Neon Rainbow, always a good choice.
There were different drinks for different levels of annoyance. Lila wasn't sure what today's level was. In fact, she had no idea. Spotting someone on the street, she lifted her head, a smile flashing toward the person. "A light? Oh gosh, of course!" Rifling through her bag, you could practically hear the amount stuff she had in there. Maybe it was time for a clean out. "I've always got one. You never know when these older stoves are going to decide they don't want to light." Lila handed a bright pink and green lighter to her, the smile still resting right on her face. "Is everything okay? You look... I don't even know. I know I don't smoke unless something's really wrong."
