You gather up all your courage to confess to your best friend. You didn't think that it would hurt this badly after getting rejected.
Sae
You had known him all your life. You grew up together along with Rin. Your parents always teased you about being together, but you didn't really understand it that time. When he left to pursue his football career in Spain, you were heartbroken. It was that time where you realized that you love him.
He was there when you had a fever; he always bought you popsicles along with Rin. The way he would have sparkles in his eyes whenever he talked about his football games and Rin made your heart flutter seeing him happy.
You always sent him messages, and he always replied. But fate had other plans for you two. His schedule got busier, and the time difference didn't help. Despite the odds your feelings for him were unwavering.
When you heard that he came home from Spain a week ago, you were determined to not repeat the same mistake. Not saying what you feel before he left.
"I've always loved you, Sae!"
You said it! You guys were at the local park. It was where you and Sae always play whenever he is free from football. Sae paused. You guys were just catching up with each other earlier, and now here you are confessing your feelings.
He was tired from the flight and everything that had happened to him in Spain. He had already picked up on your clues when you were texting each other, but he acts oblivious to it. He just didn't see you that way.
"Oh...I don't feel the same way."
You felt like someone had shot you through the heart. You weren't really looking for him to reciprocate your feelings, but hearing those words coming out of his mouth is still different from what you've imagined.
You chuckled lightly, trying to alleviate the damage that he had inflicted on your ever-so-loving heart. You acted like it wasn't a big deal and gave him a pat on the shoulder.
"Forget about it!" You laughed.
You guys resumed catching up with each other, and by the time he left, that was when your tears started to pour.
By the time you got home, you immediately went to your room to bury your face in the pillow. You were starting to regret it. He seemed to overlook just how deeply your love runs for him.
Is it because he's just too focused on football? Or he just doesn't like you in that way?
Michael
You met him because you were an assistant manager of the Bastard Muchen. You got along with him quickly because of your shared interest in psychology and philosophy. Kaiser really didn't vibe with people, but when you came into the picture, he realized that you had yourself scrutinized from the very being of your own existence.
What he likes about you is you know yourself and are a confident one, of course!
What you love about him is how he got that charisma that made him stand out from the crowd. Not to mention he also got the looks and the brains. Some players were actually teasing you both, and some coaches too, but Kaiser just rolled their eyes at them and focused on harnessing the new technique he had learned.
He doesn't think of you that way. He's too focused on his football career—being the best. Don't get him wrong, he also wants to be loved—not the love you have for him but the love he gets from football.
The crowds cheer; his worshipers and the validation he gets are the love that drives him to get stronger in football, not relationships.
"I love you, Kaiser."
You felt your cheeks warm up. You guys were on one of the practice grounds. Everyone already left to eat some food while Kaiser was doing extra exercise drills to make his aim better.
Kaiser stopped in his tracks and looked at you for a moment before chuckling. You felt your stomach sink. It was a laugh that he always used whenever you joked about something. "I'm serious, Kaiser..." you mumbled, thinking he must've thought that this is just one of your silly pranks.
He calmed down and sat on the grass. He stretched his legs on the ground and used his hands to support himself as he leaned a bit. He breathes while closing his eyes, feeling the cold breeze of the night.
You remained standing up, waiting for a reply. You curled your fist inside the pocket of your jacket. He glanced at you and smiled.
"I just don't see you that way."
You forced a smile and took a deep sigh. "It's ok—"
"Kaiser! There you are. Coach wants to see you!" Ness yelled, and he waited for Kaiser. "Gotta go." He stood up and waved you off, throwing a towel on his shoulder. After he left your legs gave up and sat on the ground.
You can't believe you just did that!
Warm tears started to pool from your eyes. You hugged your knees and buried your eyes into your forearms. 'shit, shit, shit!' You mentally cursed yourself.
You should've just kept your mouth shut. The rejection hurts, but the way he handled it hurts more. Do I look like I was joking? Does he even know how much I love him?
Lorenzo
Snuffy introduced you to Lorenzo. You met him when he had nothing, and you already loved him back when he had just gotten his golden teeth. He was actually the nicest player you've met!
Other people misunderstood him just because they found him a bit odd; he is, but he's more than what meets the eye. He's the guy who's all giddy whenever he gets to eat his caramel popcorn; the way his eyes turn into euro signs whenever he receives paychecks, he acts himself and never really thinks about what other people's opinions are about him.
He actually found you quite interesting as well. You guys would always go on movie nights whenever you were both free, ensuring you guys ordered the largest bucket of caramel popcorn there was.
When you ordered mint chocolate ice cream one time, he had a disgusted look on his face, and you found it funny. When you encourage him to try it, he shrieks like a cat getting splashed by water.
You thought everything aligned. That he also felt the same way as you do.
You guys just finished your movie night, and it was time for Lorenzo to go back to his dorm. Before he could open your door, you grabbed his wrist to stop him.
He looked at you confused and asked if he had left something. You shook your head and braced yourself for what you were about to say.
"I-I love you, Lorenzo..."
You muttered. His eyes widened, trying to process what you had just said. "Really?" His breath hitched, and you let go of his wrist, nodding slowly.
He got his confirmation, and he softly smiled.
"Sorry, Y/n. I just like you as a friend," he replied.
Your heat shattered into millions of pieces. You were sure he felt the same way. "Um...I know!" You lied and forced a smile.
"Just wanted to say it!"
When he left, you went to the living room again and cried your heart out. You finished a box of tissues in an hour and listened to happy music to distract you, but none of it worked.
You were thinking of scenarios of how your future interaction with him will play out. It's going to be awkward! Lorenzo will probably avoid me!
Loki
You weren't always the confident type. You prefer to keep yourself contained and are a total opposite of your best friend Loki. You had met him through football. Your team borrowed their team's practice ground for a bit, and after the practice your team got a chance to see their own practice match. Loki's play instantly captivated you.
When you went up to him for some tips, he actually gave you some useful advice. While at the talk, you both discovered you shared a love for cheetahs. You mentioned that your parents actually worked on a documentary dedicated to showcasing animal wildlife.
You looked up to Loki. His cheeky smirk that always made you feel butterflies in your stomach, and whenever he wouldn't share his chocolate marshmallow with Charles and Vivien because they always ended up devouring the whole pack. But not you; you know how much he likes his marshmallow, and mind your portion.
He was the heart of his team, while you spent most of your time on the bench during your plays. And you used him as an inspiration to be better.
You hyped yourself up, and your teammates were also present to build your confidence.
"Go get him!"
"If he turns out to be an asshole, I'll kill him!"
You chuckled before leaving the room to look for him.
You found Loki in one of the free rooms where players watch on the huge screens to analyze their opponents or their own plays. You sat beside him, and he greeted you. You let him finish his analysis, and you guys talked about other things as well.
When Loki was about to get up to go to sleep. You confessed your feelings to him.
"I love you, Julien Loki!"
You finally said the words that you have been practicing with your teammates in the locker room for 10 mins every day for the past week. He froze in his place and sat down to gather up his thoughts.
He doesn't like you that way...not once has he ever thought of you as someone more than his best friend.
"I don't like you that way, Y/n." He was clear and straight to the point.
You bit your lip and hummed in response. You were expecting this anyway. You guys are far too different, and there are other girls that will likely suit him better.
When he left, your teammates came up to you and comforted you. You cried into their arms. "I-I wish I wasn't like this!" you sniffled, thinking that it was probably because of your low self-esteem that got you rejected.
