My situation with all that [domestic abuse] kind of pushed me to be doing what I’m doing today. It let me realize that singing was an escape for me and it rescued me from reality at the time. Music and my voice, being able to have it and to just release something out of me other than tears, is kind of my strength. It’s my only place, my safe haven, in a way, where I can just escape for a second.
