anthology of roses

So, this is what I’ve been up to these past few weeks as Sanjivani crashes and burns. (But unlike last time, I’m taking my time with it and pacing as per my comfort; sometimes watching an episode over the matter of days to cut down on exhaustion.)

It’s a light, fluffy feel-good, family romcom about a contract marriage between a casanova rich guy/scrappy middle class girl done for mutual benefit (she wants to get out from under the thumb of her two oppressive older brothers, pursue her higher studies and make a life of her own; he needs to get married to inherit the family business.) I was wary of the rich playboy ML at first, but he’s surprisingly wholesome and the whole relationship is very pleasantly non-toxic (at most, there’s some childish jealousy tracks, no actual emotional violence.) A refreshing change from the bullshit of Tellywood and its never-ending miseries when it comes to the lead couple and their will-they-won’t-they. The two leads have real nice chemistry, not just in the romantic scenes, but also in the bickering and silently-supporting-with-each-others’-crazy-family scenes. Also, there’s the classic constantly-beech-mein-roda-daalne-waali-vamp who wants the ML for herself, but thankfully the show doesn’t dwell on misunderstandings and has the couple united against her, instead of falling for her bullshit. So all of your favt. romcom show tropes, with a minimal amount of frustration!

The supporting characters are fun as well, most of all the ML’s ride-or-die Best Bro 4 Life (a beautiful, ~BEAUTIFUL~ dumbass who always has the best/worst advice ever; the realest kind of bro there is), and the FL’s kooky family (and how ML adorably/hilariously integrates with them.) Most of the side-plots involving the random antics of the families get a bit much, but they’re easily skippable without impacting understanding of the main plot. Though the one side-plot I’m really delighted in is the FL’s Hulk-esque eldest brother finally recognizing and seeking therapy + medication for his rage issues! Coming from (lower) middle class society, he’s subject to a lot of talk in the neighbourhood and even suspicion from his wife that he’s actually having an affair (coz of the drastically changed behaviour), but eventually the wife recognizes that therapy is a good thing, and starts attending with him in order to make their marriage stronger! We stan a show that depicts mental health issues in an accurate manner, normalizes therapy, and shows how it actively improves life and relationships!!!!

JH: In the old days, I once ate 20 ice creams in a day because it was so hot. At home they’d also told me not to eat it because you’ll get a stomache ache, and in reality I did get a stomache ache, but just that once there was a type of ice cream that I really wanted to eat that they didn’t have at the local convenience store. So I went all over the neighborhood trying to find it. When I did finally find it, I was so overly happy that I bought several boxes of each and brought them home. It was really late at night by then but I really wanted to eat it, so right then and there I ate about 5 or 6, and then eventually 20. It sounds like a lie but I really did eat them like that. The next day was a bit rough…I hope that everyone [watching] won’t eat ice cream like that. 

If you fall for him after disliking  him first, there’s  no cure for it.
