The voices of Upcoming characters #5 Nikolo

This is a little series of posts I’m going to make for the next few days. (So my Tumblr won’t die down again because snk S3 is over lol.) It’s just me looking for seiyuu that I think would fit certain characters. I already did this once, but back then I almost didn’t know any seiyuu so it was like… really bad? :D So I decided to redo it and add some characters that weren’t in the last post.

 One of the biggest surprises to me in terms of Attack on Titan as a series was me preferring Jean, Connie and Sasha’s relationship in the story to Eren, Armin, and Mikasa’s. Now don’t get me wrong, EMA has a solid relationship that you can see have a main contribution throughout the series and its themes, but we see a much more compelling side to the story with JCS that I can’t help but become more invested.

  JCS is the only trio whose bond didn’t form in a backstory. For JCS, we get to see them on their own before they become a trio, still joking with each other and interacting, but never close to each other. Only getting on each other’s nerves or acting stupid and carefree in training.

 Then the Battle of Trost happens and we see them mourn over their fallen comrades together. We see Jean decide to fight in order to not disappoint his fallen comrades. We see Connie choose to fight even though he would gain the respect of his entire village by joining the MP. We see Sasha in tears at the thought of being devoured by a Titan. While all three of them had different goals, they sacrificed their dreams in order to do the right thing. Instead of being brought together by circumstances out of their control, they each made the decision on their own to risk their lives.

 We see JCS go through their emotional difficulties together to do what is necessary. In the Uprising and Return to Shingashina Arc, we see moments of emotional devastation between the three members of the trio. All three of them have become mentally drained throughout the entire series, constantly being pulled from their normal lives into the ‘hell’ they face in battle. It’s not one person being devastated while another member/s of the trio is/are being an anchor, you can see all of them on the brink of tears, having to struggle with their humanity.

 Their friendship has remained stable on its own. While sharing a dream or being indebted to someone can form great relationships, JCS held their bond naturally. It’s not held together by respect more the fact that they still keep a certain aspect of their training days with them. Jean still called Sasha “potato- girl”. Sasha and Connie were still making fun of Jean, calling him an idiot for trimming his beard. They aren’t together just because of their circumstances. They are just really good friends. While that may be boring in other manga’s, them staying together like that in the midst of this war proves that they care for each other a lot more than people give them credit for. 

 Now people can complain about them, saying that “But they don’t care for each other as much as Eren, Armin, and Mikasa do!” and I believe that while EMA’s relationship has been put to the test far more than JCS’s has, that doesn’t mean they don’t love each other deeply. 

 While Armin and Mikasa are heartbroken and sobbing over Sasha’s death, Jean and Connie look devastated.
