The compliment takes him by surprise. In the mines, no man would dare describe another as pretty. Handsome may get a pass, good-looking, maybe. But not pretty. Matteo told him Golds were much more open and fluid in their sexuality--that Reds had been deliberately conditioned to believe attraction to the same gender was something to be repressed and ashamed of--but it's still a shock.

Fortunately, Darrow has already become a master at hiding his feelings, and any minor reaction can be written off as flattery. Perhaps reciprocation. Cassius is also pretty, after all. More than that. Casssius is... beautiful. He ignores the squirm of shame in the pit of his stomach at the thought. It's not a product of the conditioning, it's a feeling of betrayal towards Eo. But he's doing this for her, and now more than ever he needs Cassius on his side.

Darrow smiles, forcing thoughts of Eo from his mind. 'What a coincidence, I was just thinking the same about you.'

Diluc pauses in the act of gathering empty glasses from the outside tables. He looks up at the sky, a perfect clear blue. Cloudless. The sun bright, and a soft breeze mitigating any excessive heat. Dahlia smiles at him. Eyes almost the same colour as the sky twinkling in feigned innocence.

Diluc sighs. 'I suppose we have the Anemo Archon to thank for that? Let me guess, a voice in the wind told you we should leave out offerings of wine?'

The deacon laughs good humouredly, knowing the ruse was far too transparent.
