Don Lothario pictured moments before realising he would be going home alone.
Based on this which I guess is a real vintage illustration.
Historically Accurate Smosh Betrayal Legacy: 1764
I'm back on this bullshit.

I love decrepit old man Amadeus and Shelby of course. It’s a shame Amadeus never made it to the next decade where tall wigs were sorta maybe a thing at least according to parodies at the time. But the only paintings I found in the 1760s had very flat subdued hair. Interestingly the children’s fashion of this time looks similar to women’s fashion of the 1790s or so. I suppose it makes sense to keep young children’s clothes simple and white for easy cleaning. (I just had this realization looking at these paintings that all these people were probably the absolute worst. Anyway).
Katchem! I had to do it. Even though coat hangers weren’t a thing yet I couldn’t let Angela have a real bow and arrow. Katchem says he’s a man of the sea but he seems more like a woodsman to me. I think I didn’t draw him disheveled enough though (then again his family still seems to be rich so). I based his clothes on hunting wear.
I still contend that Simon Bootles does not fuck. No matter how I drew him. I figured if he’s been living in the woods (and seems less adept at doing it than Katchem) then he wouldn’t be getting new fashionable clothes so he’s still wearing the rags of his old 1720s clothes. Cause what is time anyway? It probably feels like it’s been a few months to Simon. He’s the sanest one here. Him and Amadeus are my favourites this ep.
I thought Beatle would be the right character to wear a banyan. Which is an 18th century dressing gown/robe. Some of them even have a bit of a Sergeant Pepper’s vibe to them.
Home owner Danny O’Brien’s look is taken from here. Remember him flirting with Katchem? I do.
I just wanna draw gay sims.

Middle aged Amadeus starting a militia with his hot hot wife does not get the attention it deserved. Was he plotting to overthrow the government? Men’s fashion has been fairly similar at this time for the last several decades but at least it’s pretty. I don’t think white face was a thing in this time but it feels like a signature part of Amadeus’ look so I included it. I got the red clocked stockings from a painting somewhere too.
Buffy has got to be older than this but basically I wanted to draw Arasha. She’s wearing the less structured ‘sack’ dress style popular at this time. It seemed to suit Buffy’s pop proto-feminism.
What a nice young man, surely nothing will happen to corrupt him. It’s important to me that you know that Simon Bootles does not fuck. Anyway the classic 18th century ponytails are starting to be a thing seen here on these men not leaving women alone. Simon would never.
Francis Brawne is probably my favourite this episode. I love an ac-tor.
Bisexual icon Danny O’Brien. Non-aristocratic reference. I think I actually did a good job of drawing Amanda as a man here. I don’t always repeat that (I'm not always trying).

Historically Accurate Smosh Betrayal Legacy: 1694

Amadeus. Amadeus. Love how he eventually got them to chant it for real. While his original look was clearly inspired by a later 18th century style, and parodies of it, the 1690s are also a perfect era for such a magnificent not gay fop such as Amadeus. Peak pirate coat era. I think it might be my favorite time for Western men’s fashion. I tried to do this ruffled coat sleeve? Shirt sleeve covering the coat sleeve? Which I now think along with the bow is more 1680s :/ I don’t think I really captured it but oh well I love the pose at least. And there were some tall wigs in this time. Amadeus is my favourite this episode and second favourite of the series. Chanse has so much fun with him.
He was raised by a blacksmith, black belt, Satan! He’s also going through puberty in his mid 30s so that’s gotta be tough. I went for a more working class look since he was lost to his rich family - I don't know why that guy has so many hats.
A Damien character that aged? Don't get used to that. The simpler men's style around this time are all pretty similar. Sometimes the coat is folded over to look like lapels. I think I took the hat from Charlemagne's reference last episode.
A bit more civilized, but still quite angry. Some examples had this sash around the waist, and swords.
As a woman, she's at war everyday. Rory didn't seem super young to me so 30 years later 'Mum' O'Brien must be getting on. I looked at working class fashion for her too.

Pretty niche project of mine. I've been watching Smosh as a comfort channel and their playthrough of Betrayal: Legacy is one of my favourites. It's a board game that tells a story across multiple sessions that are set about 20-30 years apart each time so the players play as many generations of the same family through time, starting in 1666. The players make it very funny with a lot of improv, and various attempts at dressing like the era with the limited costumes they have available. I don't expect them to be accurate at all of course but I thought it would be fun to draw the characters in historically accurate versions of their costumes :) ...Fun for me at least so here goes.
Strong seed. Douglas is just Mr Peanut though right? If only Amadeus lived in the 1660s, omg the ruffles! He would have loved it. Douglas is a bit more toned down, for this era. This is the only one I primarily used a modern image as the reference. I think it's pretty good but I decided not to do that again. While I think Damien might have been the only one to know when this session was set, after that I think Chanse did the best job of trying to wear things kinda inspired by the era or close-ish to it. Fun fact skirts for men made a brief comeback in this era.
Her family owns planes plains! Belinda's disdain for the Irish is very the era though, although it's many era's. Look at these vampiric dresses.
He's the sanest one here. I realise now I made him look paler than I probably should've but Damien would probably appreciate it. The colour does look a bit like an anime-fied version of the reference a bit but it looked cool so I kept it.
I'm not sure if Shayne had a catchphrase this episode. Reference. I took the.. I wanna call it a doublet? off so Cornelius looked more ready to fight or pretend he's ready to fight.
Gaelic Gaelic. This one I think ended up looking too much like a roundhead for an Irishman. Who'd be very much opposed. The yellow kinda does that but maybe I should have made his hair longer. Even though his family owned the ports or something, Rory gave peasant vibes (am I allowed to stereotype due to my own Irish background?) which was harder to find reference for. I would love to be able to find more history of Irish fashion specifically, but it is hard due to colonisation.
Rory's my favourite this episode. Bash those Englishmen.
Some Harley Quinn outfit designs I did for a friend of mine. I wanted to show her having fun with her looks.
Time to get sad.
Fionna and Cake fanart.
I wanted to give Simon nice things, but also not really. This timeline where hopefully it reads that Betty’s projects and interests were pursued as much as Simon’s can’t exist chronologically anyway, even if they hadn’t made the choices they had. So it snaps back to reality.
I really love the way Fiona and Cake season one concluded the Simon and Betty arc, focusing on Simon’s side of the flaws in their relationship after we had seen a lot of Betty’s. I think it’s also apparent that they very much still loved each other and those flaws, including Simon’s privilege in their relationship, were not deliberate cruelty. Simon can still be the good-hearted person that he is and still make these mistakes and not realise that Betty was sacrificing more than him because that was normal. There was also a personality difference between them that added to it, Betty was more impulsive, possibly more insecure/needing validation, her being a fan of his was a big part of it, and I think they also both slotted into traditional gender roles in terms of who was prioritized, I think they did that without trying or wanting to. I think for that reason it’s a good lesson for anyone in a man/woman relationship or any relationship with a power imbalance due to social hierarchies (race, class, disability etc). We tend to learn to play out these hierarchies in our personal lives and have to consciously work to unlearn them.
I think if they had more time together this issue would have eventually come up and be worked out, but there were external factors against them as well as internal. I truly love that they don’t give Simon and Betty a happily ever after. It’s hurts but it’s a good storytelling hurt.
I haven’t finished Fionna and Cake season two but have generally enjoyed it so far though it has flaws. It’s not as good as season one but that I think was to be expected.
I based the top panel on my parents' shared study/living room.
I drew them as femmes.
