I love 1790s fashion. Now I don’t necessarily like it, or I don’t think I’d choose to wear the women’s fashions at least, but much like the 1830s, I have to appreciate a decade that’s really trying something. You can see how it is a transitional stage between the more classic 18th century look and the regency era but it also feels like its own thing. It’s like they haven’t codified the regency style yet so it’s similar but more experimental. And at least in post-revolutionary France they were trying all sorts of things to set a new world order, like starting a new dating system counting from the revolution rather than BC/AD, and Roman inspired public servant clothing. I have to appreciate the sheer audacity of that.
I’m not that happy with this drawing but oh well. Apart from the hands. Chanse got rid of the wig at pretty much the right time though I drew his hair a little short. And his 18th century costume is actually a pretty good cheap version of these more conservative/ aristocratic style suits from the era, which I think Amadeus’ son would wear. At least as far as Halloween historical costumes go.
Belinda is wearing the puffy high empire waist gown that makes you look pregnant. But there’s something radical about it when compared to the rest of the century. It feels like a shift similar to the 1920s but unlike that it didn’t really take for more than a few decades. There was even a trend for somewhat see through dresses. Regency dresses might be prettier but I’m a hipster about it and I find these early prototypes so interesting.
Homeowner Simon has some new clothes inspired by these, and either a wig or powdered hair. Still doesn’t fuck.
I know Beatle is referring to the American revolution. And that if he’s anything he’s certainly Liverpudlian not French. But you can’t tell me that the Beatles wouldn’t have been all about incroyable style at least some of the time if they had been around in this era. So I had to dress him in all its glorious sillyness. Complete with the reverse mullet. The moustache however is not historically accurate. But then it’s not a moustache it’s a little caterpillar.
Edit: I forgot to say Beatle is my favourite this session.
How old is Sandy? I just drew her vaguely middle aged and in a bit more conservative/old fashioned style than Belinda. But I wanna know what it says on her character sheet cause she’s mentioned back in 1729. Unless that was another girl who Danny lost in a bet.
