I’m about to lose my mind

Apparently, Gabourey got weight loss surgery because she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I’m really sad that she had to deal with that (my mom has diabetes, and she took the diagnosis really hard), but I’m happy that she chose to do this for her own health and not because she felt pressured to. I’m also side eyeing everyone saying how “good” she looks “now,” when she’s always been beautiful.

I also want to add that not only was she diagnosed as well as her brother, she also struggled with depression, anxiety, and bulimia. This is important to note because black women (especially fat, dark skinned women) are so often overlooked and underrepresented when it comes to the mental health world. Usually our health is played off as a joke or our fault, or just trying to get attention. I’m glad that she’s being open about her struggles. Maybe now other fat black girls will feel more validated.
