slowly,   pantalone   set   his   pen   into   its   brass   rest.   the   subtle   click   echoed   softly   against   the   high   ceilings.   he   leans   back   in   his   leather   chair,   his   posture   immaculate   despite   the   bizarre   spectacle   before   him.   behind   the   obscure   shine   of   his   spectacles,   violet   hues   narrow   slightly,   sweeping   over   the   motionless   third   harbinger.

❝   come   now,   what   is   the   need   for   this   display   ?   has   the   good   doctor   failed   to   entertain   you   today,   or   was   miss   sandrone   too   preoccupied   to   humble   your   majestic   presence   ?     ❞  

she   need   not   use   his   mahogany   as   her   pillow.   those   ledgers   aren't   going   to   file   themselves.

a   suffused   shadow   seems   to   pool   in   the   hollows   of   pantalone’s   jawline   as   nefer’s   fingers   coiled   into   the   crisp   silk   of   his   collar,   the   fabric   groaning   softly   under   the   imperious   arrest   of   his   momentum.   his   breath   hitched,   a   micro-fracture   in   his   usually   polished   composure   as   the   sheer   proximity   of   her   body   invited   an   intoxicating,   illicit   warmth   into   the   chilly   atmosphere   of   her   domain.

the   lethal   cadence   of   her   threat   echoed   less   like   a   decree   of   ruin   and   more   like   a   profane   invitation,   the   word   ' punish '   lingering   in   the   stagnant   air   with   the   narcotic   weight   of   unrefined   opium.   pantalone   does   not   recoil,   instead,   he   tilts   his   chin   up,   leaning   tantalizingly   into   her   grip.   

half-shrouded   eyes   flicker   with   exhilaration.   a   sinister   friction   thrummed   between   them,   an   unspoken   acknowledgement   that   authority   here   wasn't   merely   wielded,   but   passionately   surrendered   and   violently   reclaimed,   bound   entirely   to   the   razor-thin   margin   where   absolute   dominion   dissolved   into   helpless,   desperate   surrender.

pantalone   lofts   a   hand,   fingers   tracing   the   curve   of   her   wrist,   pressing   just   hard   enough   to   feel   the   frantic   pulse   beating   beneath   her   skin.

❝   is   that   a   threat,   my   dear,   or   a   promise   you   are   not   quite   certain   you   have   the   constitution   to   keep   ?     ❞  

the   regrator's   voice   dropped   an   octave,   dripping   with   a   smooth   malice   that   belied   the   faint   flush   crawling   up   his   throat.   he   leans   in   until   the   tip   of   his   nose   brushed   the   shell   of   her   ear,   his   breath   hot   against   her   cheek. 

❝   by   all   means,   exert   your   dominion.   but   do   be   thorough.   you   know   how   terribly   i   despise   a   job   left   half-done.    ❞
