It was so cute sometimes at the daycare, some kids got to the point where they knew what they needed, and they would ask for it. "Ms. Serabi, can you pat me please?"

Other kids wouldn't know it, but they would be so overtired that they would cry. We would sort of hold them against our knee/leg and pat them until they quieted down.

And then as we could see they were falling asleep, we would slow the rhythm down and pat gentler and gentler until we carefully took our hand away when we heard their breath even out in sleep.

For Damian, I'm kind of picturing the overtired one at first, but then since he's smart he would eventually get to the point where he would ask for it when he felt really overstimulated.

Obviously I've never done it with an 8-year-old. The oldest ones at the daycare were six. But the thing about when you're abused/forced to mature at a young age is that sometimes you regress in certain areas. (For example, because my pacifier had to be taken from me before I was ready, I sucked my thumb a lot longer than most kids, or how I know some adults who unconsciously rock themselves to sleep)
