It’s been three days since Y/n last texted Jay. Three days of silence and looming tension, his unfulfilled promise of coming over with their stuff lingering in the air. Jay’s never been one to show up unannounced. He knows how much it would frustrate him to have someone randomly appear on his doorstep and therefore, makes a conscious effort to avoid being a hypocrite. But the circumstances are different now. Would he even bother to text a heads up?
Apparently not. As Y/n locks up the house before heading out to meet Keeho and Yunjin for karaoke, they turn around to see Jay’s car in the driveway. He stands, leaning against the bonnet with one of Y/n’s overnight bags in his hands.
“Bad time?” Jay asks, taking note of the way Y/n is getting ready to leave. They sigh, partly wanting to answer “yes” but also knowing if they turn him away now, there’s no guaranteeing when he’ll come back. “It’s fine,” Y/n starts, unlocking the door once more. “Keeho and Yunjin can wait.”
Jay only nods, pushing himself away from the vehicle and walking towards the house. The air is thick and awkward between them, so much to say but neither wanting to be the bigger person and speak up first.
Y/n tosses their keys back on the counter, the sound cutting through the silence between them. Without a word, Jay offers the bag to them - Y/n gently taking it with a small thanks. They carefully open the bag, heart falling slightly as they realise it’s not just a hoodie or a hairbrush, but rather everything of theirs cleared from his apartment. Almost like he’s getting rid of them entirely.
“Well, I guess I’ll be going.” Jay mumbles, turning around to leave. Before thinking, Y/n reaches out to grab his arm, stopping him in his tracks. “Wait!” They start, the word falling from their lips much more desperate than intended, “I uh… have some of your stuff too.”
They honestly can’t remember what of his they have - if anything. But it’s a reason to keep him here longer and that’s all they need right now. Jay turns back to face them, his expression unreadable. “I’ll just be two seconds.” Y/n reassures, rushing off towards their bedroom before Jay can get another word in.
Finding things that belong to Jay proves to be a simple task. Y/n wasn’t quite aware just how integrated his presence had become in their life. His phone charger on the bedside table, next to a pair of sunglasses he’d forgotten about. A number of rings and necklaces discarded on many surfaces throughout the room. That’s not even mentioning the numerous hoodies and jackets Y/n’s pulls from the wardrobe, the faint smell of Jay’s cologne still lingering on the fabric. Y/n sighs, secretly placing one of the hoodies back in the closet before walking back to the living room.
Jay’s eyes widen as he sees Y/n walking back with what seems to be half his wardrobe. “I didn’t realise you took so much…” He says, trying to bite back a smile. “You’re making me sound like a thief…” Y/n mumbles, sheepishly. “Well, you’re not exactly helping your case, here.” Jay replies, gently taking the items from Y/n.
It’s an awkward tango between the two, Y/n trying to hand over the pile of items whilst simultaneously ignoring the way Jay’s hands brush gently against theirs. “Hang on, you can take the bag,” Y/n mumbles. They dump the contents out of the overnight bag onto the couch, starting to pack Jay’s belongings. “I thought the whole point of this was returning each other’s stuff?” Jay asks, eyebrows raised as Y/n hands him the neatly packed bag. “You can just keep it, I guess. Or get Heeseung to return it if you don’t want to see me.” Y/n shrugs. They’re trying to sound casual, as if the thought of Jay never coming back doesn’t make their heart sink.
“...You think I don’t want to see you?” Jay asks, softly. Y/n can only shrug, looking anywhere but his eyes, knowing they’ll likely break if they meet his gaze. “I wouldn’t be surprised…” They mumble. Jay can only sigh at Y/n’s words, putting the bag down and gently reaching for Y/n’s hands. The contact is electric, the sudden warmth sending shivers through Y/n’s body. “Come here.” Jay mumbles, slowly pulling Y/n closer to his body, their emotions finally building up as his arms find their place around Y/n’s waist - where they belong.
“I’m sorry,” Y/n whimpers, falling limp in his embrace. “I was so stupid to blindly listen to Kimmy; should’ve let you explain things.”Jay’s grip tightens around Y/n, cradling them in his arms. “It’s okay, I get it. You were put in a tough spot and you didn’t want to get hurt. You don’t have to apologize.” Jay reassures, gently. The tears Y/n had been holding back finally start to slip down their face. Even now, after the immature jabs and ignoring from their side, Jay is still being the bigger person. Not only showing forgiveness and understanding, but going as far as to deny any fault of Y/n.
“I was so mean to you, though.” Y/n cries, Jay’s easy forgiveness only fueling their guilt. He laughs, finding the reaction both adorable and somewhat upsetting. “Well, I accept your apology for that.” Y/n groans, burying their head further in Jay’s neck. “You’re too nice… at least make me work for your forgiveness.” Y/n mumbles, making Jay laugh again. “Make you work for it, huh? What kind of guy do you think I am?” He snickers. “The kind who forgives too easily…” They grumble.
“Okay… how about this? I’ll forgive you if you let me be your boyfriend. Officially, this time.” Jay’s grin is playful as he looks down at Y/n, clearly finding his “compromise” amusing. Y/n can’t help but roll their eyes. “You were always my boyfriend, idiot.” Jay’s grin only widens at their words, leaning down to gently nuzzle his nose against Y/n’s. “Even more reason to forgive you, then.”
The room feels electric once Jay finally presses his lips to Y/n’s, capturing them in a long overdue kiss. God, they’ve missed kissing him. It’s crazy how less than one week of separation can make someone long for something so much. Y/n reaches up to wrap their arms around his neck, pulling him impossibly closer. They know that he’s not going to pull away but still, they don’t want to take any chances.
“Weren’t you going to meet your friends before all this?” Jay murmurs against Y/n’s lips, barely giving himself space for the words to slip out before he’s kissing them once again. “I see them all the time,” Y/n starts, their hand slipping up to tangle in his hair. “I haven’t seen you in days.” Their words are followed up by a deeper kiss, causing Jay to chuckle. “Days? You poor thing; miss me that much?” Y/n growls in response, the hand in Jay’s hair tugging slightly against the strands. Not enough to hurt - just proving that they are not enjoying the teasing. “Don’t worry, we’ll make up for lost time.” There’s a hint of smugness in Jay’s tone. He knows just how much he drives them crazy.
Y/n doesn’t make it to karaoke, their attention solely focused on Jay with each press of his lips. In fact, they barely allocate enough time to text a heads up, hurriedly typing a short “can’t make it, sorry” as Jay pulls them towards the bedroom.

They can only smile sheepishly at the slight change in Jay’s tone. He looks at them with raised eyebrows, attempting to appear annoyed. Y/n almost believes him - if not for the small smile he’s trying to hide.
“I’m trying to be helpful! I feel bad just sitting here and watching you cook.” Y/n complains. Their whining causes Jay to smile even more. “Last time you and I were in a kitchen together you smashed a hole in Jake’s window.” Y/n can only roll their eyes in response, internally cringing at the memory. “I blame that on your bad teaching skills.”
Jay snorts at the comment, going back to the curry he is currently working on. The two fall silent for a moment as Y/n watches Jay effortlessly chop some more vegetables. It’s been almost 30 minutes since they arrived at Jay’s apartment, him immediately ushering Y/n towards the bathroom to unwind while he started dinner. Y/n’s complaints of being spoiled fell on deaf ears as they begrudgingly washed up. Even now, as they sit on a barstool in Jay’s kitchen, he still refuses to let them lift a finger. Jay’s stubborn. Unlucky for him, so is Y/n.
“Surely there’s something I can do to help.” Y/n groans, their head thrown back in annoyance. Jay snickers at their behaviour, looking up from the vegetables. “You know what? I think there is a way you can help me.” He smiles, Y/n’s eyes lighting up. Jay places the knife down on the counter, wiping his hands before walking towards where Y/n is sitting. Y/n can’t help the way their eyebrows furrow, their curiosity piqued as Jay steps closer and closer, invading their personal space. His hands come up to gently cup their face, Y/n’s lips pursing out as he gently squeezes their cheeks. Jay holds eye contact as he leans down to rest his forehead against Y/n’s, his breath fanning their lips as he softly speaks:
“You can sit there and look pretty, while I make us a delicious dinner.”
This wasn’t the answer Y/n was looking for. That is obvious as their wide eyes drop to an unimpressed look, only causing Jay to laugh before gently pressing a kiss to their pouty lips. Still, they give into the kiss, relishing in the way Jay’s lips perfectly mesh with theirs.
Much like their disappointment with Jay’s answer, he lets them down once more by cutting the kiss short, gently ruffling their hair before walking back towards the food he is preparing. “You suck, you know?” Y/n grumbles, attempting to fix the strands as they send Jay what’s supposed to be a glare. “I know you love me.” He snickers back.
The simple words catch Y/n off guard. They’re not sure if it’s the words themself or the nonchalant way they fell from Jay’s lips - either way, it was a shock. For once, Y/n is speechless.
“You’re being quiet.” Jay mumbles as he places two plates of food down on the table. Y/n hadn’t even noticed their oddly silent behaviour, too occupied by the thoughts clouding their mind. “I’m just tired.” They smile, looking up at Jay as if to appear genuine. His eyes only narrow at this, a small smirk on his lips. “That can’t be it, you’re even more annoying when you’re tired.” Jay expected Y/n to laugh at his comment. Perhaps roll their eyes and throw an insult back. Instead, they simply smile again, turning their attention down to the plate of food in front of them.
“This looks really nice, I didn’t know you could cook like this.” Y/n changes the subject, taking a bite as Jay sits opposite them. “Y/n.” He starts softly. Their rambles stop at the gentleness in Jay’s voice, looking up at him like a deer caught in headlights. It’s rare for Jay to see Y/n so vulnerable, his heart aching slightly at the sight.
“Is this about what I said before? The L word?” He asks gently, causing Y/n to bite their lip and nod. Jay sighs, placing his chopsticks down and looking across the table to Y/n. “I’m sorry, that wasn’t me trying to spring a confession on you. I was just teasing and didn’t think about my words.” He says genuinely.
Y/n almost visibility relaxes at Jay’s explanation. They take a moment to thank the gods or whoever granted them this incredibly emotionally intelligent man. The blatant communication is foreign to them in relationships - but it’s certainly something they could get used to. “Sorry for being weird about it. It just seemed really soon and I couldn’t tell if it was a joke to you or not so I kinda got in my head about it.” Y/n says, only to be waved off by Jay. “You don’t have to apologise, it was bad phrasing on my end.” He smiles.
“But I promise you, when I first say those words, it will be a lot more genuine than that.”
When.
It’s not an if to Jay, it’s a when. Y/n can’t help the way their heart flutters slightly at the thought.
Jay’s TV is much nicer than Y/n’s. They can’t help but compare his living room to their own, noting the differences in style. How can they ever have Jay stay at their apartment again now that they know how great his one is?
“Okay, I have to ask,” Y/n starts, their sudden voice snapping Jay’s attention away from the movie they are watching. “This isn’t the house you threw your party at.” Jay snickers at Y/n’s words, sitting up to give them his full attention. “Well, first of all, that wasn’t a question,” He starts, placing a finger over Y/n’s lips when they go to argue. “And secondly, the party was at my parent’s house.”
Y/n’s mouth falls open in an “oh”, the answer making so much more sense. “You didn’t seriously think a college student could afford a place like that, did you?” Jay teases. “I don’t know, I heard you were rich.” Y/n frowns, attempting to argue. “We’re not rich, we’re comfortable.” Y/n playfully rolls their eyes. “Sounds like something a rich person would say.”
The two bicker back and forth for a few minutes, arguments consisting of petty digs and feigned offence. The movie in the background is long forgotten as they focus their full attention on each other. Hours seem to pass by in minutes as the sun quickly disappears from the outside sky.
“Oh shit, I still have to drive you home.” Jay mumbles, just now taking notice of the time. He removes his arm from where it rests under Y/n’s head, stretching out the limb to regain some feeling. Y/n glances up at the window, the once pink hues of the sunset now coated in darkness.
“It’s okay, I can Uber.” They say simply. Jay turns to them, almost offended. How could they even suggest that as a possibility? “If I ever allow you to leave my place alone, you have to dump me immediately.” He scoffs, playfully flicking their forehead before sitting up.
Y/n catches his hand before he can fully get up, pulling him back down towards them. He takes in how cozy Y/n looks, the way they’ve nuzzled themself between his sheets, body warm and inviting. “I don’t have anywhere to be tomorrow…” Y/n trails off, looking at Jay expectantly.
Jay’s brain short-circuits at Y/n’s words. Are they suggesting what he thinks they are? “Do you… want to stay?” Jay asks, cautiously. “Well… your bed is really nice…” There’s a teasing tone to Y/n’s words, accompanied by a sly smile that forms across their lips. How is Jay supposed to say no to them? A face like that could get away with murder.
Jay smirks, crawling back onto the mattress until his body hovers above their own. “You sure you’re staying for the bed?” Y/n bites their lips as they look up at him. Just when they think they’ve got the upper hand, Jay somehow manages to pull a complete 180. It’s that goddamn smirk of his. “The man in the bed is pretty cool, too.” Jay can’t stop the chuckle that slips from his lips, lowering himself to capture their lips in a soft kiss. It doesn’t go much further than a peck, more so just smiling against each other’s mouths as quiet giggles fill the bedroom.
“You’re gonna be the death of me.” Jay mumbles teasingly - though the affection in his gaze shows Y/n he wouldn’t have it any other way.

AN: Not me actually posting, omg it's a miracle...
The sound of a car horn blaring causes Y/n's head to snap up. They immediately recognize Jay's car parked outside their work as he gives them a cheesy wink from the driver's seat. Laughing, Y/n walks towards his car.
“I didn't know you were picking me up.” Y/n smiles as they get into the passenger seat. Jay simply shrugs, tapping his hands mindlessly on the steering wheel. “Just trying to be a gentleman.” Y/n laughs at his nonchalant behaviour. “And what would you have done if I drove to work today?” They raise an eyebrow at him. “Do I look like an idiot? I drove by your house to check.” Jay jokes, causing Y/n to snort. “When he stalks you.” They sarcastically swoon, causing Jay to chuckle.
Jay reverses out of the car park, resting his arm on Y/n's headrest as he looks behind him. They know he doesn't have to do this - the act likely being a subtle attempt at making Y/n flustered. Their lips curve upwards into a small smile at this thought.
The two sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes as Jay focuses on driving. It doesn't take long for Y/n to notice that he's not driving in the direction of either of their houses. “Where are we going?” Y/n asks, turning to Jay with a smile and raised brow. “Telling you spoils the fun, don't you think?” He replies. Y/n can only roll their eyes at his smug response. “How cliché of you.” They laugh. “Of course, I've got to put my years’ worth of rom-com viewing to use.”
They drive for a bit longer, far into the countryside. Y/n quickly finds some familiarity in the direction, recognizing it as the way they drove with Heeseung and his friends when they visited their swimming spot. Jay seems to notice Y/n taking in their surroundings, laughing slightly.
“Don't try to be clever; I’m not taking you to the swimming spot.” He says, a cunning grin on her face as he glances in Y/n's direction. “Where are you taking me, then?” Y/n asks, curiously. Jay just chuckles at the question and focuses his attention back on the road, the lack of answer causing Y/n to slump back into their seat in defeat.
After driving for a little longer, the car suddenly turns down an unfamiliar road. Y/n has never been this far into the country before and the anxiety starts to set in that they do, in fact, have no idea where Jay is taking them.
“Do you trust me?” Jay asks suddenly.Y/n turns to look at him, studying his side profile and the small smirk on his face. They know they should say no. They want to say no. But Y/n finds their head nodding before their brain can catch up. Jay's smirk changes to a smile when he sees them nodding. “Close your eyes.” He teases. Y/n does as they're told, whispering a light-hearted “please don't kill me” as their eyes flutter shut. Jay only laughs at this, driving for a minute or so longer before pulling the car to a halt.
“Don't open them until I say so.” Jay says, undoing his seat belt and opening the car door. Y/n tries their best to listen out for context clues, hearing the sound of Jay walking around the car before opening… the boot? They hear rummaging sounds, lots of rummaging - almost as if he's looking for something.
“Okay, you can open your eyes now.” Jay says, finally. Y/n doesn't hesitate, opening their eyes and turning in their seat to face Jay.
There he sits in the boot of his car, a proud smile on his face as he's surrounded by blankets and pillows. The back seats are pushed down, making the car seem spacious and cozy. There are even some small warm-toned fairy lights scattered around, giving off a glowy ambience.
“I had a really great time watching Mean Girls with you and… I wanted to do something like that again. Only this time… I wanted to make it special.” Jay says, a small blush dusting his cheeks. Y/n doesn't know what to say - they can't remember the last time someone went through this much effort for them. “Jay… this is amazing.” Y/n manages to say, looking at him with a big smile. “You haven't even seen the best part yet.” Jay chuckles, nodding behind Y/n.
When Y/n turns around, their mouth falls into a smile. It appears that Jay has driven them to some kind of lookout, overlooking the valleys of the countryside. “Holy shit.” Y/n mumbles, their breath taken away by the view.
“The guys and I were driving back from our swimming spot last week and your idiot cousin got lost,” Jay chuckles. “So I took over driving and we stumbled upon this place… and the first thing I thought was: I want to show Y/n this.”
Y/n can't help the way their smile widens at his words, turning around to give him a cheeky grin. “You really have been studying those rom-coms.” They tease, causing a pink blush to make home on Jay's cheeks. “Is it too cheesy? We can do something else if you want.” The boy replies, sheepishly. Y/n only shakes their head, looking at him with nothing short of adoration. “Jay, it’s perfect.”
Blankets? Check. Snacks? Check. Laptop? Check. Laptop charged? Check. Jay had gone through this thought pattern meticulously before picking up Y/n from work. Anxiety flowed through his body, his perfectionism coming in full swing as he planned and prepared their date. And with Y/n’s head lying comfortably on his shoulder as they watch Legally Blonde, he realises that all that overthinking paid off.
To think that mere months ago he barely knew Y/n - the name he’d heard of here and there but not had the pleasure of meeting. Even when the two had finally been introduced, they got off on such a strange foot that there was no telling how their relationship would develop - if they were to even have one. It’s strange to think of the odd coincidences that brought them together in this moment - coincidences that Jay is ever so thankful for.
“You thinking about something?”
The sound of Y/n’s voice cuts through the noise emitting from Jay’s laptop. “Just… reminiscing, I guess.” He mumbles, the answer causing Y/n to giggle slightly into his shoulder. “About what?” They ask, looking up at him with a smile and a curious glint in their eyes. “Well, I think it's safe to say when we met I never expected we'd have… this kind of relationship.” Jay admits. “You’re telling me you didn’t immediately fall in love with the crazy person who climbed out your window?” Y/n jokes, raising an eyebrow at him accusingly. Jay laughs, shaking his head. “Not exactly… I’m happy though.”
Noticing the shift in tone, Y/n adjusts their posture, nuzzling their head further into Jay’s shoulder as they look up at him fondly. “Yeah?” They ask, earning a nod in response. “Yeah. I was kinda in this weird… slump before I met you. I wasn’t really going out or doing a lot…I think meeting you really helped me… find myself again.” Jay says, his eyes focusing on his hands as they play with a loose thread of his jeans. Y/n notices the fidgeting and gently places their hand on his, attempting to comfort any nerves.
“I don’t know what exactly you were going through but… I’m glad that I could help you.” Y/n says softly, squeezing Jay’s hand. He gives a tight-lipped smile in return - not one to enjoy being vulnerable. Y/n giggles at his expression. “We don’t have to talk about this if you don’t want to.” They smile, causing Jay to shake his head. “It's okay… just want you to know how important to me you are.”
Hours go by like minutes as the two lay in each other's embrace, the movies on Jay's laptop long forgotten as they talk about anything and everything. It's been a while since Y/n has felt so at ease with someone. Jay seems to have broken down their walls much faster than anyone in the past.
“Are you getting tired?” Jay asks, noticing the speed of Y/n's replies slowly decreasing. Y/n shakes their head, about to say no before being interrupted by a yawn pushing past their lips. They giggle awkwardly as Jay shoots them a raised eyebrow. “Come on, I'll drive you home.” Jay says, patting Y/n's thigh as he goes to sit up. Y/n lets out a noise of complaint, one close to a whine as their head falls off his shoulder. They don't want to go home. They don't want this night to end.
Going back home means going back to this whole Jay and Kimmy cheating debacle - and Y/n would much rather stay trapped in their little bubble with him.
“Listen, as adorable as you look right now, we have to get you home. We don't want anyone thinking I kidnapped you.” Jay jokes as he begins packing up the blankets and snacks. Y/n doesn't exactly hear the rest of his sentence. It's hard to pay attention after Jay Park calls you adorable.
They reluctantly climb back into the passenger seat, stretching out their tired limbs. Jay snickers at Y/n, finishing packing up before climbing into the driver's seat. “You can sleep if you want,” Jay says softly. “I'll get you home safe.” Y/n tries to ignore the way their heart flutters at his words, mumbling a small thank you as they close their eyes.
Jay carries Y/n’s sleeping body into their apartment - the second time he’s done so. However this time, they have no complaints - relishing in the way he gently sets them down on the bed.
Y/n's a cute sleeper. Jay had noticed this the first time they fell asleep in the car. The way their head falls to the side, lips slightly pouty. As creepy as it sounds, he thinks he could watch them sleep forever.
“Sweet dreams, Y/n.” He mumbles, more to himself than anything. He knows they can’t hear him, far too deep in their slumber. And yet he hopes that subconsciously, the gentle words help ease Y/n’s rest.

I have not been very active on here for the last few months and am finally going to explain what's going on :)
The first thing I am going to say is that I am not quitting this account. For the last 2 years (almost 3????) I have been using this account as my creative outlet to share my writing and ideas with the world. This account still brings me so much joy and I am definitely not giving up on it just yet.
While I say this, there will be a few changes that need to be made to this account - the main one being the types of content I create.
Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for my hiatus was due to one of the apps I use for my smaus being shut down. Smaus are a large part of my account and I know are a favourite of most of my followers. Despite looking over the last few months, I am yet to find an app that can replace the one I was using. Because of this - my current Jay smau To Catch A Cheater will be on a temporary hiatus. (side note, if you have any suggestions for smau apps that work on android devices, please comment or message me :/)
In the mean time, I will be focusing on more written content - both short, long and multi-part written series. The only difference is that these take much more time to create so I ask you all to be patient with me.
I have a lot of things in the works right now and hope I can begin posting for you all soon. Thank you so much for being patient and I promise you'll hear from me more soon! :)
