NAME:  Meilin âMeiâ Lee AGE:  Twenty-Two SEXUALITY:  Open Minded HEIGHT:   5â˛6âł & 8â˛0âł when as the Panda PRONOUNS:  She/Her OCCUPATION:   Assistant Keeper of the Lee Family Temple, Sketchbook Artist, and Media Advertising Student ABILITIES:  Can Transform Into A Giant Red Panda
Smart, confident, womanly, spontaneous, and just a little bit dorkyâ Meilin âMeiâ Lee was the total package! Not to toot her own horn but she always got the highest marks at school, would claim to know about all the best trends out there, had the coolest and bests squad in the entire world, had a responsible and well paying job from a young age, was mature for her own age; and oh yeah, she even knew how to do a cartwheel! You couldnât find anyone better out there than her!Â
Mei was the perfect and dutiful daughter anyone couldâve asked for. She grew up with the mindset that the number #1 rule in her family is to honor her parents and that is exactly what she did. Everything her mother wanted from her, Mei did it without a complaint. But donât get it twisted, Mei firmly believed that she was very much her own person despite doing all that was told of her, she just knew that there were responsibilities she needed to focus on and so she did them. But whenever she was with her best friends, Miriam, Abby, and Priya, it was a completely different story. With her squad, Mei could let herself lose with them. They can talk gush about other people, dance party as much as she wants, watch silly and random videos/movies/shows and listen to loud and âobnoxiousâ music as they want! There were no rules or set boundaries when came to being with them, and Mei couldnât be anymore happier that she had these girls in her life.
Not to say that Mei didnât love spending time with her parents. On the contrary, she spend loads of time with the both of them, especially her mother. They have a daily ritual of watching soap operas with each other and even had multiple exclusive mother & daughter date nights where they go shopping or to the spa together. Â She was her motherâs precious little Mei-Mei. Their bond was super close, and because of that the last thing Mei ever wanted was to disappoint her mother, and so for a good chunk of her life, she didnât. And sure, they would still get into a couple of disagreements here and there (her friendship with Miriam being one of them as Mei believed that if her mother actually got to know the other girl, she would see just how cool Miriam actually was), but none of them were ever bad. That isâ until everything changed when she was thirteen.
Waking up one morning, Mei found herself looking like a red panda! It freaked Mei out to the point where she screamed, alerting her parents, before her mother came to check on her. Panicking, Mei hid, refusing to let her mother see her in such a state until she was able to finally lock herself within her bedroom. Not sure how this happened, she tried everything to revert herself back to normal. She closed her eyes and commanded herself to look human again, she laid in bed and pretended to fall asleep, and Mei even went and grabbed her brushes, thinking that maybe if she calms herself down, it would help. And for a split moment, it did! But then she got a little too excited and back into a giant red panda she was! It was horrifying, and it took Mei exhausting herself into actual sleep for her to finally revert back to normal. But then a new issue arrivedâ her hair was red! And her mother wasnât exactly approving of tainting and damaging ones hair, so Mei knew she had to hide her hair from her. The next day, Mei had been on edge, all she wanted was to avoid everyone especially her mother. But her mother chose to be super overbearing that day and it wasnât until Mei got to school was where she thought she could avoid her. But nope! Even then, her mother was spying on the girl, and after accidentally embarrassing her in front of her classmates, Mei found herself transforming again and ran off, causing some damage on the way until she was finally back home. There, she couldnât hide her state from her parents and when they saw how she looked like, all Mei heard was her mother utter "it has happened alreadyâ for her to realize that what was happening to her wasnât just some random freaky magical occurrence.Â
Apparently, turning into a giant red panda was going to happen to her and her mother never once warned her about it because âshe thought she had more time.â See, due to her ancestor, Sun Yee, and her love and connection towards red pandas, she was granted the power to transformed into a red panda and instead of those powers staying with her, it became a curse that the family lineage would also gain that ability too. For generations, every woman within Meiâs family was able to transform into a giant red panda once they became of age. Her grandmother could, her aunts could, and so could her mother, and the only reason Mei never knew about this was because her family had a ritual that could put the panda away completely by being contained by an item like a piece of jewelry. Her mother suggested the ritual, and at the time Mei was on board with doing it because she didnât want to look like a giant red monster anymore. But the ritual couldnât happen right away, and so Mei found herself stuck like this and had no choice but to try and contain her emotions until then.
Of course it didnât take long for her friends to discover her power, and as shocking as it was at first, the girls found Mei being a panda incredible. Their validation and acceptance made Mei happy, and with their help, the girls were able to find a way for Mei to control her powersâ at least the reverting back from a panda, as being with them and thinking about how much she loved them was enough to keep Mei calm. From there, the girls were back to business as usual but with some big news! Their favorite group, 4*TOWN, was coming to Echo Isle to have a concert and all four were dead set on going. But there was one big issueâthey didnât have any money and their parents wasnât planning on giving them any. Stressed, this meant they had to fund the money themselves and Mei transformed again, and due to being in school at the time, one of her classmates also found out about her. Then another and another, and before Mei knew it, her entire class knew! But they all found her cool and adorable, and that was when a plan came to mind! They can hustle the panda and market the panda to make money for the concert! For weeks, the girls were somehow able to stay low-key about it, gaining more and more money until they needed only a hundred bucks more to finally get a ticket for each of them.Â
Meiâs mother wasnât okay with her going to the concert, deeming it inappropriate and juvenile for her go to. This upset Mei greatly, but she persisted and after being invited to one of her classmates, Tylerâs, birthday party who wanted her come as the panda with the promise of paying them well for it, Mei and her squad went. Big mistake! Their time at the party had started off well, but after learning how the ritual and concert were both on the same days and getting into a small scuffle with Tyler, the night turned into a disaster and Mei came home with three less friends and with a hallow feeling of how she had to either choose to go to the concert with them or stay and give up her panda. And after some thinking, she realized that she didnât want to lose the panda! Of course, her mother still wanted her to go through with the ritual and with her grandmother and aunts even visiting Echo to help with the ritual, Mei felt like she had no choice but to go on with it. Until she didnât, and left straight to the 4*TOWN concert to make up with her friends and let lose. That didnât go well with her mother, it triggered her even, and before anyone knew it her motherâs own panda was released, broken from the pendent that kept her at bay, and before going after Mei.Â
Now this is where the rest of the story became tricky. Mei was able to reach the concert and make amends with her friends before enjoying herself for a little. But when her mother crashed the concert and she saw just how big her motherâs panda was, Mei having to transform and fight against her with the help of her grandmother and aunts, and parts of concert venue getting destroyed, itâs safe to say the events of that night was possibly one of the craziest that has occurred within Echo Isle. Which is why the fact that no one outside of Mei, her family, and friends donât remember the events that happened was so surprising. It was reassured to her by her grandmother that it was okay and this was necessary, which Mei agreed about, but it had her wondering what else her family was keeping from her.Â
While her mother, grandmother, and aunts decided to go through with the ritual again to strip away their panda, Mei decided against it and her mother learned to accept that. Yes, this means that she has to be careful again since people donât remember the events of the 4*TOWN concert, but itâs a price that Meiâs willing to take if it means getting to be honest with herself. And thankfully, with her friends by her side and a newfound honest relationship with her mother, Mei was able to go through her years without another big red issue.
The Lee Family Temple is one of the oldest places within Echo Isle and has surprisingly proven to be one of the biggest tourist stops there. Which is great, because thatâs her familyâs business and the last thing Mei ever wants is for people to stop coming by.
Has always been interested in every form of media and has more than once suggested to her parents that to make better business for their temple, they should find creative ways to advertise it more. Itâs why she wears the fake red panda costume made out of cardboard around town sometimes, to advertise! The outfit actually helps, and after recalling how well she and her friends were able to advertise her actual panda, Mei soon realized that this could be a good calling for her! Her mother was a little hesitant about it, but after Mei create a good and detailed powerpoint argument over it, she decided that once she hit college, she was going to major in media advertising, and thatâs exactly what she did.
Has a shared TikTok account with her squad and a good chunk of the videos are Mei in her panda form, but she always plays it off like sheâs just wearing a âcostumeâ whenever anyone in the comments asks about it. She and her friends even has a fake zipper they clip onto her fur and everything that makes the whole suit stunt believable because she knows that she canât have the whole world actually knowing that she can transform into a panda again. Thankfully, their channel is still pretty low-key and not super popular and there are a bunch of videos that are just them singing, dancing and recreating memes to overshadow some of the panda videos. But every once in a while a video of her as a panda would go viral.
Thinks her father is the best. He gives the best advice, makes her laugh, and she loves that he doesnât conform to the âtypicalâ masculine nature men are supposed to go by, such as being the one who often does the cooking and cleaning back at home. Itâs very obvious to anyone that her mother is the breadwinner at home, and yet her parents knows how to make their relationship work and are as loving as ever. It actually makes her happy to learn how her mother fought for her relationship with her father after her grandmother disapproved of him, and has Mei hoping to find someone special like that to fight for one day.
Gains crushes left and right, and depending on how intense they are depends on how long they last. Most of the time, theyâre temporary especially considering the more intense the crush is, the easier it is for her to go panda. That said, Mei has had only a few crushes thatâs lasted more than a week for her. The first and most obvious one was on 4*TOWN member Robaire who her pre-teen self had been certain wouldâve fallen in love with her the second he saw her, heâll magically turn into a merman and they'll get married together. Another crush was on a former schoolmate of herâs named Carter, who Mei successfully had her first kiss with but unfortunately whatever relationship between them didnât last for long after that. A third crush, and one it took her forever to admit about, was on one of her best friendsâ Miriam, who helped Mei realized that she was just as much into girls as she was guys. But Mei never did anything about that because their friendship was way more important than any romantic relationship couldâve been and eventually, those feelings faded and she was back to seeing Miriam as one of her best friends again. And before you ask, yesâ she does have a crush on someone new currently. But Mei claims itâs nothing more than an idol / fan obsessed crush.Â
Loves going to the karaoke bar with her squad. Mei isnât even much of a singer, she just likes to go for the fun of it and for the love of music.Â
In fact, music has always been a part of who Mei is, being as sheâs a talented flute player, and has an obsession for all things pop especially boy bands and girl groups. Literally, 4*TOWN is still her number #1, but if you ever take a look into her playlist, itâll be filled of 4*TOWN, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, One Direction, Jonas Brothers, BTS, 5 Seconds to Summer, Spice Girls, Destiny Child, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony, Kitty Section, and even soloists like Poppy, Brittany Spears, and Olivia Rodrigo! Her closet door is even filled with posters of all the artists sheâs into, and every few months she would switch it up depending on who sheâs really feeling at the time.
Likes to draw a lot. At first, it was just Mei doodling on the corner of her notebooks whenever they was daydreaming, but at some point she actually bought herself a sketchbook and used that to draw. Now she has books filled with sketches and drawings, some more detailed and colored. Her friends had told her that she has some serious skill with her art if she ever wanted to take it further, but Meiâs unsure of that as she finds most of what she draws kinda embarrassing and refuses to let many people look at her work.
Is as blind as a bat for sheâs been wearing glasses since she was very young, but wears contacts most of the time nowadays due to the amount of frames she had accidentally broken whenever she goes panda.
Speaking of, while Mei does have way more control in handling her panda, she can still accidentally transform whenever her emotions run high. It takes for her to be feeling super intense about something for her to change, but it can still happen. Whether sheâs overly excited about something, extremely upset or mad, or super embarrassedâthe panda can and will come out.Â
Is able to only have her ears and tail appear if wanted to and not go full panda. Mei likes to do so whenever she feels extra cute and itâs easier for her to make pretend that theyâre fake by sporting a custom made hairband that matches her ears.Â
Canât actually do a cartwheel that well but will act the most confident in that she can until she falls flat against her butt.
Loves animals, especially adorable kittens and wants to adopt one but is unsure if she should due to not wanting to freak the kitten out by becoming a panda. For now, she has a digital pet she takes care of.
Will spontaneously sing out loud when thereâs a really good song being played.
Doesnât define her sexuality by any label as she accepts all kinds of labels.
Tries not to be so hard on herself most of the time and convinces herself to just live life the way sheâs been living it and to have fun!Â
