Everyone talks about how live theater and performance is a dying art— when in reality film is a dying art. We continue to put film aside, we like reboots and redos. We never give money to something new. Or there is ai. But live theater withstands the test of time. I don’t know if film will. At least not in the way it was intended to.

We have lost the art of being in a movie theater. I thought this to myself as I was in an empty theater. We have lost our ability to sit in community. That’s what performing arts are— even film— is being in community.

Unrelated to being fat, but related to me. I saw backrooms today. WOAH. Like I didn’t like how gory it was… not a fan of that. BUT I was a big fan of memory and memory loss. I just thought that was so neat.

SLIGHT SPOILER

As someone who had a psychotic break, and in the building months I would hallucinate the people I loved on passers by but there would be things off with their faces— I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS SO NEAT!!!! like memory loss— especially due to trauma is such an interesting topic and also so liminal. It really fits the scope of the setting.
