A Pyrrhuloxia, also known as a Desert Cardinal, perches on a Cholla skeleton in the morning light of Southern Arizona. Pyrrhuloxia are found in southern Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and south into Mexico. They are often confused with female Northern cardinals that share a portion of their range.
