Exams are coming and I thought I’d share my revision method as a mainly visual learner (and a bit of auditory learner) since I have to memorize a lot of information and details for my exams.

Notes:

I start off with re-writing everything I need to know. I make sure it looks pretty and neat. I also do this step a few weeks before exam season just so I have it all done when it’s time to revise since this step tends to take quite a while.

Go over the notes and use post-its:

When I’m actually revising I read everything and try to condense most of the information in diagram form on some post-its. I tend to use a post-it per page of notes but it depends. On the diagram I only write the important terms and leave out details.

Talk out loud and “teach”:

This helps me a lot. I read everything, out lout this time, and then try to “teach” the information to an imaginary person. Sometimes I do this with a friend but it works just fine if you do it in the mirror.

“Brain Dump”:

Finally, once I think I know everything (or almost everything) by heart, I take a sheet of paper and write everything I know about the subject. I try to write every single detail as if I were taking my exam. Then, once I’m done, I check what I wrote and compare it with my notes and go over with a red pen and cross mistakes, add in information I’ve missed, etc. I will, then, re-read that sheet of paper enough times until I think I’m ready!

so this entire past month has been extremely, extremely stressful for me because i had so many exams and i only realised how hideously unprepared i was for them on the day before the exam, which was really really awful. so in the middle of september i created a studyblr to keep myself motivated + get some helpful tips from the studyblr community on how to go abt studying for tests. the results proved to be super helpful and ive resolved to keep running this blog for as long as i can, because it really helps me stay motivated and i’ve already learned so many things from the community, despite the fact that i’ve only been here for around a month.

Why does every studyblr I see look so relaxed and so organised and so put together? I may be a studyblr but to be honest, I’m the most disorganised person in the world and fail almost every class I take. Its not that I don’t work hard, I do, but sometimes things just don’t come out the way you hoped.

I just want to remind someone out there who thinks studyblrs are perfect at school that, not all of us are. I cry almost once every week because I find mathematics so difficult I don’t remember the last time I got a 50%.

This is the reason I passed my mid year exams even if I procastinated at the beginning of the year and only studied days before exams.

This technique is just like teaching someone except you’re writing your words down.

You start by reading your textbook and notes and learn as much as you can for that study session. After that you take a notebook (prefaribly for this technique only) and you start explaining this the way you understand it. When you get lost, go back to the textbook and read again, close the book and explain that on paper.

I swear if I had started using this technique at the beginning of the year (unlike most my school year starts in january) I would have gotten straight A’s because it’s like photocopying the information to your mind.
