Romualdo García Torres (1852-1930), death’s photographer.

Born in Silao, Guanajuato, moved with his family to the state’s capital where he got in the Arts and Crafts School where he studied painting and music. In the 1880s he started working as a photographer and in 1887 he opened his own photographic studio where he photographed all sectors of Guanajuato population: children, women, men, seniors, etc. (x)

Without a doubt, his post-mortem photographs are more famous. Romualdo had talent to make this type of photography that could be very gloomy without the proper care.

Post-mortem photography was rare in Mexico, but Romualdo’s photographs seem to capture the soul.
