One of my friends took a children's literature course at her college and one of the required readings was Harry Potter. In her class, HP was discussed from a literary standpoint, such as analyzing its character tropes, world-building, and plot points. JKR was also discussed, on how she was a transphobe and anti-semitic in her works. Although I was not part of the class, I often talked about it with her for I was a "Potterhead" when I was younger. I was good anecdotal evidence when she began to discuss the HP fandom in class. As I knew she had never read HP growing up, and she was the only one in her class reading it from a first-hand experience, I knew I had to tell her some essential information about the HP fandom of the early to late 2010s. I told her about Drarry. I told her the basics. That it was the ship between Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter. That it was the most popular HP ship of all time. That I didn't ship it, but it was an ultimate part of the HP fandom experience. And you never would have guessed what was mentioned in class the next day for her... And to make matters more cursed, AO3 was name dropped as well. So yes, the academics know about your Drarry fics on AO3. They find them fascinating. So keep writing your fandom fics. There's a chance you're gonna be studied in a college classroom one day.
