Hey guys! We’re happy to announce the release of our second group project: Vanitas ($0 USD), which includes project debuts from our newest members.

Vanitas are best understood as still life paintings, popular in the Netherlands, which contain collections of objects symbolic of the inevitability of death and the transience & vanity of earthly achievements & pleasures.

concept: you and i buy a new bedspread together and i teach you how to fold a fitted sheet like my mama showed me. we have a couch that’s perfectly large. in the mornings when it’s raining you sit at the window and trace the droplets down the glass with your fingers and i try not to burn the toast. one time a bird pair built a nest in our balcony and we watched their babies.

1. the forest

we buried our bones where even the trees couldn’t find them,

hid our hearts in the darkest sap wounds,

let the slow sticky blood seep down ancient trucks,

we tucked our dreams in the careful curls of root systems, through their tangled stretching thirst,

we thought we could hide our bodies in hollow logs, to be comforted by

their slow musty rot, to take their advice

we gave ourselves songbird wings and we stripped away all things heavy

and left them behind to feed the undergrowth.

we thought then, -then! lighter than the golden pollen buoyed by no more than a breath, lighter than ourselves, our selves,

we thought we could get away.

but our souls got caught in the branches.
