I recommend reading this to anybody, but especially to those considering starting a blog outside of Tumblr (like NeoCities, anything with a web ring), those who like to think deeply about the internet in the Web 2.0 era of chronological blogs, social media silos, and enshittification.

You hold on because of what they "could" be, not what they "are". It's poisonous hope. Kill it. Block the person. Delete their number. Remove anything that reminds you of the person, because every reminder is a setback. Stop treating it like destiny and start treating it like a bad habit. Choose yourself over them every time, and when they try to come back (because they will), don't let them. Remember the pain and remember that you deserve better. Always.
