I just wanna say something about this because I’m thinking about if rn
The whole situation with Louis Lippert and Jimmy (Elizabeth Valdez) is so eye opening to the shit that can grow from what can seem like harmless internet use. I hate to be the kind of person to say “oh, the internet is so harmful,” because I’m chronically online, but seeing all the weird shit on here is genuinely disturbing.
I’m gonna touch on is desensitization. You can obviously see it in the footage of Louis and Jimmy in the back of the cop car. The way they discarded that boys life was so disgusting, and the way they were posting about it on social media is, (in my eyes,) just displaying the harm social media has done to these girls.
I was talking to my friend about this and she also brought up the early internet. In the late 90’s, an edgy teen made 2 games, Nene Interactive Suicide and Picos School. The games were made not too long after the Columbine shootings. I feel it’s just another case of teenagers being edgy and then idealizing that crazy shit. Also to be mentioned, there’s a KMFDM reference in the game, which was a big part in the columbine tragedy, which is kinda why I looped this into here.
This is kinda also why I’m bringing up the internet so much in this. The TCC has so much shit, which is (I think) why Louis and Jimmy had no empathy for the boy. There’s a lot more that I can say about the Sandy Hook tragedy regarding this too.
But also, remember, I’m just a teenage girl with no life and I big mouth so it might just be what I think, so please don’t get mad at me.
