"All I'm saying is if you joined me in jumping the boogeyman, he wouldn't stand a chance." Haruko said in a matter of fact tone. Why wasn't it getting through his head? At least Kenneth understood when she held up both hands, scooping her up and resting her belly on his shoulder. A potato sack carry was what they called it.
"And what time are you thinking of jumping him?"
"I dunno. 3AM? The witching hour?"
"Okay, first of all you should be asleep at that time." Kenneth laughed, shaking his head. "Second, the boogeyman? He's old news."
"What?! Then who's the new big deal?" Why wasn't she informed of this? Surely, someone would have told her!
"Your grades. They're slipping."
"Oh my god," Haruko dragged her hands down her face, "don't go all mom on me now!"
Kenneth squinted his eyes at her. "I wouldn't have to if you studied better."
Ugh, the adults were infecting him! Haruko shuddered at the thought of becoming like that, pouting at Kenneth. This was enough for him to put her down. Maybe it was time to remind him that she got what it took to get through hell— a.k.a. school.
