once I was making sure I had shelves or bins or organization things first, it became a lot easier to actually finish tidying things up since I knew where things were supposed to belong

Side note: if you have enough shelves and bins and closets and whatnot but are struggling to decide which one a particular thing belongs to, one trick that I have found very useful is to imagine that you have lost this thing - where would you look for it first? If there's a place you would check first, then that's probably a good place to store the thing!
