As much as âThe Ends of the Earthâ Book by Neil Shubin was well worth reading in terms of Climate Change and should be read by many more people to hightlight the need of urgent action to negate our ever faster warming planet. However I do not agree with his theory of evolution hence this post as a counter argument to his version of evolution and Godâs design. Neil Shubin's âYour Inner Fishâ is his theory of how one creature's journey out of the water made the human body what it is today and one man's voyage of discovery in search of life and our origins within the Ice.
Hence his discovery of the supposed link in the evolutionary process mentioned in "The Ends of the Earth" was where this journey began. In 2004, the paleontological communityâand the worldâwas presented with what many evolutionists considered to be a dyed-in-the-wool missing link between fish and land animals (tetrapods). Evolutionary biologist Neil Shubin and evolutionary palaeontologists Edward Daeschler and Farish Jenkins found an incomplete fossil of a creature called Tiktaalik on Ellesmere Island in northern Canada. The specimen was supposedly 375 to 383 million years old (Devonian layers). Since then over 60 Tiktaalik specimens have been discovered.
The Tiktaalik missing link celebration was short-lived. Much to the dismay of the evolutionary community, a 2010 study in the journal Nature examined fossil track evidence that tetrapods were walking on open ground â397 million years agoâ in what is now Poland..This date is about 18 million years before the appearance of Tiktaalik based on the evolutionary narrative and so is much earlier than expected.
The late evolutionary palaeontologist Jennifer Clack said, âThe paired fins of Tiktaalik still retain fin rays: Loss of fin rays is part of the way in which limbs are distinguished from fins .âItâs no wonder biochemist Michael Denton said, âThe gap between the tetrapod limb and the fin remains. âIn 2024, Hickman et al. said, âevolutionary relationships of early tetrapod groups e.g.,Tiktaalik remain controversial.â
The Tiktaalik is often compared to the Coelacanth in terms of its evolutionary significance. Both Tiktaalik and the Coelacanth are considered transitional fossils that supposedly represent the significant steps in the evolution of vertebrates from aquatic to terrestrial life.
The Coelacanth is a living species still living as the were millions of years ago. This fish is often referred to as a "living fossil," is a lobe-finned fish that has been known to inhabit deep-sea environments for millions of years. Despite the belief that coelacanths went extinct around 65 million years ago, a live coelacanth was discovered in 1938 off the coast of South Africa, and a second species was found in Indonesia in 1998. These discoveries have provided valuable insights into the supposed evolutionary history of lobe-finned fish and their potential survival despite the extinction of other marine species.
"The Genesis Enigma" book written by Andrew Parker actually explains Genesis the first book of the bible of how the sequence of events in life are actually scientifically accurate. As a distinguishedš biologist who is also an effective science writer/science populariser he explains how the sequence of events are as they are found to be in evolutionary terms. In "The Genesis Enigma" he sets out to demonstrate the scientific accuracy of the creation story in Genesis.
It may be surprising to learn that the father of modern evolutionary theory (1809â1882) had doubts about his proposed explanation for the diversity of life. Reflective by nature, Darwin worried about the philosophical implications of his biological theory. One concern was whether manâs cognitive, or, belief-producing faculties, which he believed had evolved from the lower animals, could be trusted to produce reliable, true beliefs about reality itself. Hereâs how Darwin expressed his epistemological (relating to knowing) reservations concerning the purely naturalistic process of evolution. He sadly doubted his belief in God and the bible because it seemingly did not fit with his theory of evolution.
The Cell was another of Darwinâs Dilemma as in the last century our knowledge of the cell has exploded knowledge, knowledge that Darwin never had. Today powerful technologies reveal elaborate microscopic worlds, so small that a thimble full of cultured liquid can contain more than 4 billion single cell bacteria each packed with circuits, assembly instructions and miniature machines. The complexity of which Charles Darwin could never have imagined. For
Thus, I suggest that believing only in Darwinâs theory of evolution without God's coding is wrong. For it would have been impossible for a cell to originate without the intelligence to provide the design within that particular cell. This really doesnât negate evolution as shown in the Genesis sequence account of events. As both in the bibleâs Genesis account and Andrew Parkerâs account run parallel to each other.
Hence the information on the cell below really highlights how effective God's design plan was to bring life on Earth into being. Darwin only relinquished his faith in God because he seemingly could not equate God's intervention with his theory of evolution. For as previously mentioned the Cell was another dilemma in the last century as the knowledge of the cell we have Darwin never had.
This aspect is clearly seen in new medical harnessing the healing power within own cells. Researchers are exploring the potential of harnessing the body's natural defences to develop new ways of fighting illness. Here are some of the innovative approaches being explored.
Immuno-engineering: This field involves manipulating molecules and proteins that exist in nature to reprogram aspects of the immune system to intervene and reverse disease processes.
QRICH1 Protein: A recent discovery has identified QRICH1 as a protein that could be targeted for drugs to control the activation of T cells, which are crucial for fighting cancers and autoimmune diseases.
Ribulose-5-phosphate: This molecule derived from glucose in immune cells can stop bacteria growth and dampen inflammatory responses, offering a potential pathway to combat chronic diseases.
Stem-like T Cells: These rare immune cells have the ability to self-renew and resist exhaustion, providing long-term immune responses that could be used to treat chronic infections and cancer.
Immunotherapy: By enhancing, redirecting, or restoring the body's immune response, immunotherapy aims to combat diseases with precision and minimal harm.
These advancements represent a significant step forward in the development of new medical treatments that leverage the body's natural defences to fight illness.
Hence in closing the Science of evolution can explain how things happened but faith in God as the Creator in Sy Garte's "Replacing Darwin" book also explain why these changes happen. Darwin gave us a powerful âhow,â but many argue he left the âwhyâ untouched â which is precisely where divine intervention had to come into the equation to embed into all cells the necessary code needed to create another species that is distinct in itâs design and function within the chain and changes needed for life to progress and diversify to provide humanity their needs.
God said âI give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the groundâeverything that has the breath of life in itâI give every green plant for food." And it was so." Genesis 1:29.
