How to Finish
I drew this poster for Jon Acuff and his FINISH book tour. Big thanks to Jon for this collaboration, his book has some great ideas about how to complete creative and life goals.
Love this, but reblogging it specifically for “Get rid of secret rules.” That’s one of the most amazing illustrations—and points—I’ve ever seen.
so important especially for perfectionists who procrastinate and never finish, or even start because they set such high standards for themselves.
Grumble grumble…
2017.
No single line has ever wrecked me as hard as this one from the Good Place and I think about it constantly

Yui Yuigahama - Oregairu Analysis
“I want it all.”
A powerful line that defines not just Yui herself, but the Oregairu series as a whole. In a story with characters written so skillfully, so rich with nuance and life, it should not have surprised me how much I fell in love with Yui Yuigahama in particular.
Through all the highs and lows, the laughter and even the tears, Yui doesn’t care, she wants it all. In this piece, I will breakdown and analyze the meaning behind Yui’s definitive line, and the significance of Yui’s character and her ending in the overall narrative of Oregairu.
I hope you enjoy reading!
There will be spoilers ahead.

Also shoutouts to @dxrkblaze whose gif of blaze was added to the original SCCT post and I’ve been enamored with it ever since

I was talking about being afraid of people leaving me behind because I'm too sick, and my boyfriend just looked at me and said: "It's my choice to be your boyfriend. It's your friends choice to be your friends. You don't have to understand it, but you have to respect our choice. Don't try to make the decision of whether you're worthy of people on their behalf because that's not your decision to make." I think that's an important thing to remember. That whether we're worthy of someone's time and effort is something others can decide for themselves regardless of whether or not we agree with them. There's a lot of peace in realizing that literally all you have to do is accept the love other people choose to throw your way. That you aren't the one who gets to determine that you aren't worthy of their love. That other people can choose to love you regardless of how you feel about yourself - and that you can learn to respect their choice even though you're feeling unworthy.

I think one thing I really didn’t get when I was like 20 is that “small talk” is often a way for people to hint at the bigger deeper things that are going on with them without overloading someone. like it can be an invitation and a chance to test the waters before launching into things that it may or may not be the appropriate time/place/person to talk about those things with.
like when someone asks “how are you,” you don’t have to respond with “good,” but it also isn’t necessarily a good context to go straight to “I keep flipping my shit at people I love because I can’t regulate my emotions and I’m afraid of them dying or abandoning me,” plus if someone isn’t used to broaching that kind of topic at the beginning of an interaction it gives them a chance to develop the kind of comfortability to be able to talk about that stuff. some people will reach that point sooner than others, whether it’s over 10 minutes or multiple years.
also, I’ve realized that it’s a shame to dismiss talking about things besides our deepest troubles as being meaningless. human connection is meaningful even if it is just about the weather or how our family or our favorite sports team is doing, and knowing how someone feels about these supposedly surface topics tells us a lot about eachother that can be applied to topics you may consider more personal or impactful, and forming that foundation with someone is absolutely not something to be pushed aside as trivial.
Small talk is social calibration. You calibrate a system before you use it for intense or precise work.

What are we doing here?
I’m… I’m sure you have thought of this in many other ways, in… maybe in some other words, maybe, but… fuck, I can’t get this out of my head, why, why am I here, whats the meaning? I’ve… I’ve been feeling this void inside me ever since I’ve- I’ve known myself and I can’t fill it with anything. I…I’ve been doing music, I’ve been doing this sampling thing, but this void doesn’t seem to-to be pleasured with anything, you know what I mean? Ahm. Fuck, it’s really hard. I just wanna know the meaning. Is there, is there any meaning? Is there any meaning behind all of this? I- I just wanna know, is is the pain worth it? Does, does thing get better? I- I wanna know. I-I hope I get to know this life. I hope to know the answer in this life. I’ll keep looking.
Everyday.
