Jamie only sipped absently at his coffee, hardly paying any mind to her warning. It wasnât the first time heâd heard such a threat, and it was his job to be trustworthy, even for⌠less than legal reasons. Regardless, he wasnât stupid.
An eyebrow arched at her next words, almost disbelieving that she was even daring to bring up such a topic. Surely if anyone found out this conversation took place, sheâd be the one in danger, not him. But he didnât deign to mention that. Instead, he set his cup back down on the table.
âYou know how difficult thatâs going to be, right? Thereâs a reason nobody knows him, and Iâm not in the business of finding out. He offers safety and luxury; to test his boundaries could ruin his generosity. Your sort of curiosity will be deadly.â
âOf course I know.â She replied, giving the other a sigh. And she knew that her curiosity was dangerous. It got her into trouble before, and it would get her into trouble again. There was no denying this. There never would be. And there would be no stopping it. She couldnât control it -- even if she tried.
âCall it my âAchilles healâ if you will. Obviously, if you were to accept my preposition, I would keep you safe. I am more than capable of that. Iâm not hearing a no, sir.â
