Non-unanimous jury convictions: A teach-in on its racist origins and impact

Part of The City Repair Project’s Village Building Convergence Festival, this teach-in will walk you through the recent Supreme Court decision that ruled guilty verdicts for criminal trials must be unanimous, overturning a practice with racist origins only taking place in Oregon and Louisiana.

We will discuss why Oregon Attorney General, Ellen Rosenblum, refuses to give those still in prison or on parole from non-unanimous juries fair trials, and how we can take action.

Time for a hot Valentine's Day date with making plans to stop displacement! Our third and final event in the P4ME gentrification teach-in series will feature local activists and organizations who are actively working to combat gentrification and resist the displacement of Black and Brown Portlanders. First, we'll recap our previous two events, followed by time for each organization to introduce themselves. Then attendees will have an opportunity to get to know the organization of their choice in breakout rooms. Think of it as a virtual volunteer fair where you will learn exactly how you can help fight gentrification and advocate for restitution. We've learned; we've discussed; now's our chance to get to work! Admission cost is a sliding scale. All proceeds will be donated to the featured community organizations.
