The people who are complaining about the aesthetics of the console may be missing "Microsofts" point.  Granted it may not meet "your" wants and expectations - but it does meet Microsoft's expectations.

Microsoft is no longer creating a "gamer's console" - they are creating a TV/MOVIE/SPORTS integration unit ... that also plays games.  Their market is no longer gamers.  They want people who rarely or never play games to also buy this unit.  And therefore, they want the unit to look like an appliance.  They want it to replace/sit next to your cable box and tuner.  They want grandma and grandpa buying this thing and renting movies and paying for premium services etc ..
