rewatched kanae’s elevator scene so here are some details! she does a cute little walk when she gets up that i can’t really capture here with still images

she does a little ‘eh?’ double take upon seeing mikage open the coffin

her expression upon seeing the rose crest ring. not seeing it turn black, not the body. just seeing the rose crest itself. imo this and her understanding of anthy’s feelings are some of the biggest kanae former-duelist evidence

even more cute walking…good on her for having the reaction of ‘okay not engaging here i’m leaving’

this might be my favorite expression of hers in this whole scene…something about her attempt at composure despite the clear distress and the way she never speaks again in this scene after the rose crest is shown to her. she stares downward as if trying to figure out something—a plan to get out? a memory?

reading/watching the rose of versailles is such an Experience because one minute oscar will be doing something incredibly badass and you're swooning alongside rosalie and andré and the legions and legions of women and men who want her. 'ooooohhhh lady oscar!', etc etc. and then the next minute she's literally gifting someone a portrait of her own face and you have to take a step back to recall that, oh right, she's also an obnoxious prick. which does ultimately add to her charm I’m afraid
