honestly i haven't really liked the snippets of "only the drifter with their 10,000 years of therapy could unite the hex" theorizing i've seen because...i just don't think the drifter necessarily understands human emotions very well, and i definitely don't think albrecht, who clearly intended the time loop outcome (or he wouldn't slap a big neon sign saying "MAYBE YOU SHOULD TIME LOOP" up right before he kills you), does either.

albrecht entrati: i'm dropping subtle hints that the drifter should consider a time loop to befriend the hex in order to save them. also albrecht entrati: BEFRIEND THE HEX TO SAVE THEM. I'M SHOOTING YOU NOW SO YOU'RE GOING TO DIE IF TIME STAYS LINEAR. WONDER HOW YOU COULD SOLVE THAT. BAM!

but the secret is that the special power drifter has isn't really being extremely emotionally intelligent in a broad way. the main challenge with the hex in the first few convos, when they're in their outwardly most fractured state right after the first reactor raid, is "don't rise to anyone's bait and don't be needlessly cruel to anyone." all you have to do is not over-react. and that's a hundred percent something the duviri tales, and the implied countless loops dealing with every courtier's meltdowns, actually can and do teach.

personally i assume this mainly works because the drifter just tunes them out, a la the courtiers, whenever they start obviously lashing out. like even in the KIM when someone starts snapping at you the best response is usually the textual equivalent of "uhhhhhhhhh okay man u good?" or "okay yeah fair". basically the drifter wins by doing this
