i think there is a statue of grace. on the campus of the university where he got his phd. it's a big base, like the statue atop it is going to be a larger than life hero standing brave. but instead it is him, life size, sitting with his feet dangling off the edge and turned slightly to the side like he is in conversation.
there is room to sit next to him. students like to hop up and sit next to dr. grace to get advice, vent, just take a minute. he's a friend to all on campus

Don't know how many people here have heard about Raymond Robinson, also known as Charlie No-Face, but I think about his story a lot sometimes.
To simplify: he was severely disfigured in an accident as a kid, losing his eyes, nose, and right arm. He went out for walks late at night because he couldn't bear to show himself to the public in broad daylight, but was loved and respected by those who knew him.
Okay yeah, it must have been pretty unnerving to see him while you were out late but again, he went out specifically SO he wouldn't be stared at by 'normal' people. He might have looked 'scary', but he was literally just a human, a disabled man who was trying to live his life the best he could.

being a teenager is basically just half a decade of "ugh I hate myself I hate my life I hate my parents nothing is fair everyone is mean the world is cruel I'm tired of it!! but idk i guess every teenager has this phase and I'll probably grow out of it and understand when I'm older" and getting older and realizing you should have been even angrier and more violent. Simonâs characterization and the fandom biases towards it
So, I love bloodymary and absolutely adore the fanfictions, however, some of Simon's characterization is⌠lacking, and exaggerated, and sometimes downright wrong.
Sometimes i see him depicted as being so clueless about everything and people justify it by saying its because of the Quiet Rapture, just so Grace can teach/explain things to him.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they just haven't seen Iron Lung yet.
BUT, fanfiction is fanfiction and we are all free to write whatever we want.
I just feel like he is such an interesting character and has so much potential, and sometimes he is unfortunately reduced to Grace's pet project to fix.
If you are like me and would like to keep this character as close to canon as possible, I am gonna share my own notes about Simon that I am using for my own fanfic. Notes that I took while watching iron lung, containing some of the lines and how he behaves.
It's messy af keep that in mind, sorry.

Simon is a smart motherfucker, navigating with the sm-13, he is nervous but reactive under pressure, and able to adapt when needed.
Curses only when frustrated and stressed, not all the time

Has lost hope for humanity (not really), but has hope to live. He seeks comfort and talks about what he is feeling. Has abandonment issues.

Despite not believing in Eden he cared about his brothers. (Again, abandonment issues)

Doesn't actually believe in the quiet rapture, thinks that the space stations were taken somewhere else, not that the stars disappeared.
