Seeing the sea is the only solace when suffering and feeling like you’re surely at the edge of your life. You want to jump in it but you won’t. You know the sea will disapprove and wash you off sooner rather than later and you cannot take that, not from the sea, nor given your abandonment issues which probably began when you were seven years old and ghosted for the first time by your then best friend. Her just walking past you when the new academic year began and you being so hurt and so confused that your mother had to ring her mother up and then your friend told your mother she just didn’t want to speak to you anymore because her mother thought you were problematic. Maybe that’s when you realized you weren’t normal. Something parents had to warn their children against. I think it’s because thoughts, deep and curious, strong and clear, are scary in adults but even scarier in children. Seeing the sea makes you feel like seeing the sky does. There are things above and beside you, so much deeper, so much bigger, so much more intense that they can never be scared of you. They can never be intimated by you. Feels good, doesn’t it? That’s why you have to live by the sea. You have to live by the sea if you want to keep living. Okay? And for now you must keep living. Okay.
