Oh god, Jimmy's last speech always breaks my heart. Everything about it is heartbreaking. His hand on the glass. Jimmy telling Curly that he's glad he got to be his friend and co-pilot. Him calling him captain(aka him giving him back the position he stole from him). Jimmy admitting that Curly was always so good to him but he ended up hurting him. Jimmy bringing up again that he was trying to save them by committing a murder suicide because in the moment, he thought death would bring them all peace but he didn't think they would survive the crash(he never saw Curly rush into the cockpit because he was having a panic attack and was deep inside a terrifying hallucination). Him saying that he fixed it because he so desperately wants to fix/ reverse all the wrong things he'd done. Everything about it is perfect but so tragic.
But getting to the point of this post, I have another Mouthwashing theory. This line of dialogue supports my theory.
My theory is: Before Jimmy placed Curly in the cryopod, he wrote a suicide note where he confessed that he’s the one who crashed the ship and not Curly.
Now why would I think this if Jimmy is someone who doesn’t take responsibility?
Well, while I believe he was too cowardly to admit his other crimes( and also, he may believe that Anya, Swansea, and Daisuke is alive in the end of the game ), I think he would take responsibility for what he did to Curly. It’s a fact Curly is the only one he apologized to and he admitted that he fucked up by crashing the ship. He wants to make things up to his friend by giving him a chance to survive and get rescued.
So I believe he only admitted to committing one crime: the crime of committing a murder suicide by deliberately steering the Tulpar towards an asteroid.
Jimmy confessing to crashing the ship gives more explanation about why he didn’t go in the cryopod with Curly. They both would possibly fit in it and it's a possibility that the pod wouldn't malfunction due to two people being in there.
The thing is, if he went in the pod with Curly and they both got rescued, people would see the note and the dead bodies. He would get in really big trouble( prison or receiving the death penalty. The best case scenario would be ending up being sent to a psychiatric hospital) and the world judge him and look down at him for what he'd done to the crew. His life would be over. He felt like he couldn't handle that so in his mind, after he finished writing the note, he had to kill himself. He couldn't go with Curly back to Earth.
Besides, Jimmy crashing the ship was because he wanted to die. He felt like there was no point in going back to Earth.
He tells Curly that he's going to be okay, that no one will hurt him anymore, and that he fixed it. It sounds like he did more than just place Curly in the cryopod. It's like he made sure Curly wouldn't take the blame if he got rescued(oh yeah, I do believe he did get rescued).
I said before that he's talking about himself when he told Curly that no one will hurt him and that's another reason why he killed himself. He's a danger to Curly and he promised him that everything will be okay now.
He would know that it'll take a while til Curly will be able to communicate with others and that people would assume that the crash and all the death is completely Curly's fault considering he's the captain. After doing so much fucked up things to him, he didn't want Curly to suffer anymore. Writing a confession note would make it where Curly wouldn't get in trouble for his crimes.
I think he also exaggerated the truth because admitting that he kind of sort of told the captain that he was going to kill everyone before he went to the cockpit and Curly didn't do anything until he saw and heard the alarms and warnings sounds really fucking bad. People aren't going to get or care (a lot of people don't give a fuck about mentally ill people or understand that being captain puts a lot of stress on a person) that Curly was depressed(possibly suicidal) and that he dissociated(I don't know if Jimmy knew that Curly had hallucinations ), that Curly didn't think Jimmy was being completely serious, and that Jimmy put him under too much stress and agony by getting Anya pregnant and manipulating him into thinking that the pregnancy is all his fault. So he would have to lie a little bit to make the story sound better for Curly's sake.
So yeah, I think he wrote he, the co-pilot, knocked out Curly---and maybe also wrote that he tied him up----and then steered the ship towards an asteroid and turned off autopilot. After writing down that Curly was untied by another crew member, he continues with the truth: Curly rushed over to the cockpit to save everyone but it was too late. He prevented them all from dying but the crash heavily damaged the ship and he got severely wounded.
