Helen was crying now, unable to stop herself, nothing but fear pumping with every quickened beat of her little heart.  She didn’t mean to make the red lantern more angry…!  She didn’t mean to say anything to upset anyone…!  ”I…”  she squeaked, but suddenly she was heaved up by her throat, and she felt herself quickly losing breath.  Tears poured more steadily, her feet slipping to try and find something to rest on, hands moving to Bleez’s wrist hopelessly.  The Lantern’s grasp on her other arm stopped the choking, but she could already feel bruises blossoming…on her arm, on her throat…

"None of us want to see scary things."  Bleez pressed her fingers just a little harder, watching the hope in the child's eyes run into the darker recesses of her mind, overcome by--

“Th-thank you for…warning me…”  Helen wasn’t sure how she should react—should she run?  Should she scream?  Should she stay, and hope that the woman had no intention of harming her?  The only thing she was certain of, was that she was afraid, and as Bleez’s nails tapped against her skin, she almost began to cry.  ”Wh-what do you mean?  The universe is full of really good people…”  Helen’s innocence shining through.  Even after Stigmonus’ attempts to show her how rotten everything was, even after the cruel and unnecessary loss of her  parents, after seeing so much…

The universe is full of really good people.  Those words bash around in Bleez's brain like some sort of annoying, rampaging elephant.  "How can you think that?!  Children are such queer creatures, such idiotic, simple minded things!"  Rage was bubbling in her soul, like an ugly head beating against bars, and the napalm fluid coursing through her veins rose into her throat,  "I will show you,"  she stated, heaving the child up by her chin, moving her other hand to her arm, grabbing it with bruising strength to be sure she wouldn't break the poor thing's neck.  She didn't want to kill her.  Just teach her something valuable.
