and then there’s this life-sized irl reconstruction of a young Omphalophloios puertollanense on display at the Museo Paleobotánico en Córdoba in Spain, Omphalophloios being an extinct genus related to Lepidodendron. i used this picture in my term paper last year and its haunted me ever since. like. this exists

Remarkably, all of the frogs shown here are of the same species. The strawberry poison dart frog [Oophaga pumilio, formerly Dendrobates pumilio] is a Central American species displaying extreme color polymorphism in different localities. Their vibrant coloration and pattering serves to deter predators, as well as attract females and incur competition between rival males. This competition for the most unique coloration is likely the driving force between the extreme diversity within this single species. Images by Brian Freiermuth.
