I'm watching Fantasy High for the first time and I love it it's amazing an heartbreaking and god what a start
but I think the only real critiscim i have is that Sarah Lin (Fig's mom) never apologizes. Maybe she did before canon but like i still think it would have been a nice moment where she just owns up to her mistakes and the effects it had on her daughters life on her husbands life. That would have made Fig's own apology and their reconciliation feel so much more earned but honestly if feels like she just offers vague "it is what it is"s and "I'm human too"s without ever really acknowledging how she wronged everybody else in the equation.
Like she even admits at one point that she just prayed Fig's horns would never come in and she'd never have to dral with it which is a very human thing ofcourse and don't get me wrong 'm not hating on her for the act but she just didn't even apologize that she would have been okay, had planned to lie to Fig and her husband their whole lives and only came clean because she was caught out. It's just so frustrating cause I really wished it would have happened. It would have really i think complimented the whole Mom is a 3 dimensional person who makes mistakes and isn't just out to ruin your whole life just because thing I don't know. Like she cheats on Galier (who i love) and essentially ruins his life and sends him into a spiral(honestly how much of that is depression and how much of that is just who he was always going to be is up for debate) She lies to Fig her whole life and even when found out refuses to tell her who her father is for honestly no real reason i can find other than shame (which is valid and honeslty she should have explained would help humanize her) and the gorgaroth didn't even know she was married. I don't know maybe everybody shares some blame in how they treat each other but Sarah Lin has the lion's share and it would have just been nice if she openly apologized and shared the shame and guilt shes been carrying around with her for her actions with her daughter.
I think she doesn't want to admit she had a big part to play in the family falling apart or even the pain she caused her daughter.
Figs life collapsed when she grew her horns, her friends left Gilier disowned her for a while and she was left to deal with it alone because Sandra Lynn was busy with the divorce.
That's not even mentioning the fact the growing horns would undoubtedly be a painful process. Given what we know, it's safe to assume that fig had do deal with that pain alone.
Sandra Lynn definitely is just overcome with shame, seeing as she acts like everyone else is the problem and shifts blame.
The bad kids are popular in school even in elmville everyone knows them. Even as individuals most of them have something notable about them (eg. Adine as the Elvin Oracle or Riz as the youngest P.I in Solace) but even with all of that, even though they are objectively impressive people, they are still idiotic teenagers when no one is around and I just think that's beautiful.
Do you think that the bad kids felt weird when Fig and Gorgug went on tour? The bad kids are a unit, it's odd to see them apart. How many times has a bad kid had a sidebar with a npc and the rest of the bad kids start chiming in, like of course the rest of the bad kids were right there. The PCs have to actively state that they are alone or else they aren't. So imagine what it would be like for them when Fig and Gorgug are just gone for a while. It definitely felt like a part of their soul was missing. You spend all day everyday with these people and suddenly they aren't there anymore, you know they are coming back, you know the exact time and date that they are returning but you can't shake the feeling that something is wrong and you all just need to be reunited already.
I think at this point, Fig doesn't remember what she looks like. She disguises herself so often that she can't get her own features right. She has a sort of uncanny valley effect about her, like yeah it's fig but her nose isn't quite right, she's a little taller, her horns are slightly sharper. I imagine the issue of this only got worse after sophomore year after she became an arch Devil.

Thinking about fhjy and the rat grinders and the amount of people actually upset that they didn't get a redemption moment at the end is fucking wild.
People were actually mad that the Bad Kidz didn't have more "grace" or whatever the fuck for them as if they weren't trying to murder them. It's like we were watching different shows lmao. Like in what fucking world is it a teenagers responsibility to help redeem people that have been harassing them the entire year. I'd honestly go as far as to say bullying them, the RGs were literally meeting in private and plotting on the BKs, that's some unforgivable shit.
The idea that the Bad Kidz would be involved in any kind of Rat Grinders redemption arc is completely fucking ridiculous. It's genuinely ludicrous. After all that shit they did, they were lucky they were revived at all. The BKs could have left them for dead like they did Everpetal and her boyfriend, and it would have been completely justifiable.
Sending the fleet of dragons after the hangman was truly beyond the pail, I truly cannot believe that people expected a redemption arc at the end.
