Worth getting nervous for
Michael had played in front of thousands of people.
He'd handled packed stadiums, interviews, cameras, pressure.
None of that had prepared him for this.
Because right now, standing outside the restaurant in a tailored black suit, Michael Olise was nervous.
Then immediately regretted it because only thirty seconds had passed.
"Relax," he muttered to himself.
The date had barely started.
And completely forgot how to think.
You were walking towards him.
The black dress was elegant without trying too hard, the silver jewellery catching the light from the street lamps as you moved.
Everything about you looked effortlessly beautiful.
Michael's brain immediately stopped working.
For a second, he just stared.
By the time you reached him, he still hadn't recovered.
Michael continued staring.
And somehow that only made things worse because now he was distracted by your smile too.
"You look..." he started.
His words completely disappeared.
You tilted your head slightly.
Michael rubbed the back of his neck.
The compliment came out so honest that it made your cheeks warm instantly.
His ears went slightly red.
Which only made you smile more.
Because seeing Michael Olise nervous was unexpectedly adorable.
Except Michael keeps stumbling over his words every time you look at him for too long.
At one point, he's halfway through a sentence when he completely loses his train of thought.
"You were telling me about training."
That earns another laugh from you.
The second the word leaves your mouth, he nearly drops the menu.
As the evening continues, Michael slowly relaxes.
Every now and then he'll still catch himself staring.
Usually when you're talking about something you're passionate about.
Or when you're doing literally anything.
Because it's difficult to focus when you're convinced the prettiest person you've ever seen is sitting across from you.
"You know," you say eventually.
Michael groans immediately.
He leans back in his chair.
"I wasn't supposed to be nervous."
"You're comparing me to an interview?"
"That's not what I meant."
Michael closes his eyes briefly.
"See? This is exactly what I mean."
By the time dinner finishes, the nerves have mostly faded.
The two of you walk outside together, the night air cool around you.
For a few moments neither of you speak.
Not because it's awkward.
Because it's comfortable.
The best kind of silence.
Then Michael looks down at you.
And that nervous feeling returns all over again.
Michael looks at you questioningly.
"You don't have to be perfect."
The sincerity in your voice catches him off guard.
You gently reach for his hand.
A small smile appears on your face.
For a second Michael just stares at you.
"You make this very difficult."
"Because every time you say something like that, I like you more."
The words come out before he can stop them.
Michael immediately regrets nothing.
Because the smile that spreads across your face is worth every second of panic.
And as you continue walking together beneath the city lights, hand in hand, Michael decides something.
If this is what first dates feel like with you?
He definitely wants a second one. ๐คโจ
