Stannis FINALLY meeting Davos in a Storm of Swords broke my hearttt. Stannis is consumed by Melisandre and his defeat, but Davos helps him remember himself…Davos and Stannis truly are such incredible foils of one another and Stannis’ motivation to sit the Iron Throne remains my favorite of all the claimants, because he does not want it, he understands the weight of it, and he admits, ADMITS, it is still out if a sense of duty to his daughter, to ROBERT BARATHEON, who did not love him. Because he thinks his brother deserves justice despite EVERYTHING? INSANE. His sense of duty to his family at the cost of HIMSELF...AHHH. It’s why he betrayed Aerys in the first place. HOWEVER.
The level of delusion he’s in to believe Melisandre and himself innocent of Renly and Penrose’s assassinations…Melisandre knew Stannis needed plausible deniability of not being a Kinslayer in order to move through the world, by his own code, but dreams of their deaths were already plaguing him in A Clash of Kings.
Stannis is introduced as an agnostic, perhaps an atheist, but by A Storm of Swords he seems taken by firey visions…his defeat has left him so vulnerable and his physical description made me so sad. It’s as if he’s been beseiged in Storm’s End all over again. FUCK! BUT DAVOS IS BACK…DAVOS EXPECTING TO BE KILLED BUT STANNIS IS STILL STANNIS, listens to Davos’ honesty and prizes it and MAKES HIM HIS LORD HAND??? I YELLED.

LAST NOTE: Stannis draining his own blood to spare little Edric from Melisandre’s pyre…Him insisting he could never see harm come to Edric despite Westeros being a place that cares little for bastards, because Edric is still Stannis’ blood, he is still his brother’s son, and he is innocent…I am relieved Stannis maintained a measure of himself and seems to remember himself even more with Davos at his side…for now…
