BIOGRAPHY !
Perhaps being born on a cold, winter’s night when the snow was piling high on the ground in Saratoga, would give some indication of how Oscar Sullivan would spend the rest of his life. Born to a couple that hated each other, his life was complete chaos from the second he took his first breath. Only two years later, Oscar's mother welcomed a second baby into the family—Max. Oscar adored his younger brother, protecting him from their father's yelling and constant annoyance over how loud his two children constantly were. But it wasn't a happy end for the Sullivan family, as when Oscar turned six and Max was four, their father was jailed for the murder of their mother. Both children were sent to a foster family until another member of their family could be located—but they had none.
Oscar and Max's adoption was a little rocky at first, where Max immediately took to their new foster parents, Oscar took a lot longer to open up to their parents. Oliver and Alexis Watson fell in love with the two boys the moment they showed up in their home. Max had always been the more accepting of the two of them, more open and happy with their situation. It took Oscar a lot longer to warm up to his new parents, although he eventually did. The siblings were ten and eight when the Watson family officially decided to adopt them. And although Oscar became less closed off from his dads, there was still a coldness to him that no one could ever thaw, except his brother. Oscar's emotions always countered Max's warmth, though there was a sadness that hid behind both brother's eyes. Eventually, that pain faded from both of their eyes.
Life with the Watson family was far more comfortable. They had a bigger house and instead of having to share a room, both boys had their own separate rooms—although Oscar insisted their rooms were across the hall from each other. The Watson family was big into sports. Growing up, both brothers played soccer—since Oliver was a professional coach—but Max ended up being better at it. Oscar found his own talent in both fencing and tennis, finding the solo aspect of training much easier than being surrounded by a team. He found that he was best suited for sports that required hand/eye coordination. When Oscar was twelve, his father got hired to coach in California. The family moved to Aurora Bay.
Oscar struggled swapping schools because he'd gotten used to the other students at his school in New York. Dealing with change was never his strong suit. It took a while for him to warm up to California in general, but thankfully by the time he got into high school, he'd adjusted to the weather and living in Aurora Bay. It was his freshman math teacher that really changed his outlook on his future. He'd never been great at math, preferring history classes to anything else, but his freshman teacher made him fall in love with the subject. By the time Oscar graduated high school, he knew that he also wanted to inspire people to love the subject. Although he had a few scholarships to Stanford and Calfornia Technical Institute, Oscar was terrified to leave his family, so he ended up going to Aurora Bay College before getting his master's degree i teaching from Stanford.
After coming back to Aurora Bay, he got a job at the high school teaching math. For a couple of years, he stayed with his parents while saving up for his own house. His brother left to play professional soccer in Tennessee. His parents, both nearing retirement, were happy to have Oscar stay with them. Last year, he finally saved up enough money to buy his own house without his parent's help. He was grateful for his family's support of course, but Oscar but he was glad to have a space to make his own. He has been teaching for four years. Oscar has a reputation at the school as being one of the tougher teachers, but he's doing his best to inspire his students to love math just as much as he does.
HEADCANONS !
Oscar does not like to drink. He might have a single glass of wine at dinner with his parents, but other than that, he's not a huge fan of the way alcohol makes him feel. He hates the loss of control.

"Easy. Classical. I know a lot of people probably are not going to be shocked by that. I adore classical music though. It's so much more relaxing than anything else on the radio though. Maybe classic rock on occasions."
How does your muse behave when they are with their crush / love?
"What are we in high school? I don't really do the whole crush thing anymore. I would guess that I'd probably behave the same as I do now around someone I love. They better be prepared for a lot of nights of watching me grade math tests while watching something on television."

"About a month," she responds, "maybe a little more, or less, sometimes it feels like time goes by so quickly." Eloise has found herself thinking in terms of weeks rather than months, given her current state. "How are you Oscar?" she asks, genuinely curious, "we haven't kept in touch, I'll admit, but it is nice to see you." Although they've never been particularly close, she's being sincere, feeling rather sentimental as of late.
"Wow, I've really not been paying all that much attention." He'd been so wrapped up and focused on school that he barely noticed any new people in town. "Well, welcome back." He didn't know what else to say. "I've been good. Graduated, working at the high school now." Not many people would have thought he'd become a teacher, yet here he was. "How have you been?" Oscar asked. "You too. I hope you've been doing okay."
Sully wasn’t of the mindset to buy forgiveness but he also hadn’t raised someone like Selina before. She was different than Summer and less chill about everything. None of his sisters were interchangeable and that meant having to approach things different with all of them. “ I’m not trying buy her secrets. I just want to know she’d be safe. You know having an extra number in case of an emergency “ he noted before letting out a sigh. “ that’s exactly that. “ he just wanted her to be safe
“ what makes you say that?” He asked about the confidence in that it would be easy @oscarwatson
Oscar knew it wasn't the best option, but he did know that there was something that probably needed to happen in this situation. Sometimes it was less of being a parent and more of doing what needed to be done. "No, that's not... what you're doing. At least I don't think so, but I don't know. Sometimes I think that needs to happen. Like you're just trying to show here that you're listening to what she's asking for, be it space or something else." He nodded. It was a complicated situation.
"Because it's nearing the end of the year and the students are already over it. I'm barely teaching anything anymore."
who: open / @aurorabaystarter
where: fired up pizzeria
Oscar didn't often go out to eat because honestly he liked to cook. Sometimes after a long week of dealing with bullshit, he'd grab something to eat. With summer coming up, his classes were all more excited to talk summer plans than anything math related. While normally he could deal with it, after a week, he needed a break from it all. As much as Oscar hated to admit it: there were a lot of students that didn't care about math. There were a few here and there that did, but most of them now were annoyed they had a little bit more of the school year left. The week had been extra tough on him and while Oscar tended to not go out unless it was absolutely necessary—because he hated running into parents, students, or former students—it was necessary today. He let out a loud sigh the moment he opened the door and saw how crowded the pizzeria was. So much for an evening of calm. "Is there a place here that isn't so crowded on a Friday night?" he asked, knowing all too well the answer was no.
Closed starter: Eloise & @oscarwatson
Location: pretty much anywhere
The thing about leaving town and rarely returning, is that you start to lose touch with people who you were never really close with to begin with. Now Eloise feels as though she's trying to mend bridges that barely formed in the first place. So it's no surprise that she's a little unsure what to do when she runs into Oscar. "Surprise," she states, almost a little too cheerfully, "I'm back in town." She's not even sure if he really cares. Eloise was always a bit closer to his brother and hasn't spoken to either of them in years.
Oscar didn't have a lot of friends because he'd always been way too shy to make them. A lot of his friends were his brother's growing up. Max was a lot better at finding people to talk to and latching himself on as their friend. Annoyingly so sometimes. But Oscar never minded that since he was a lot pickier to talk to. "Oh," he blinked. She hadn't changed all that much. "Welcome back. How long have you been back?" He wasn't up to date on the happenings in town. She could have been back for months.

Fletch holds his hands up in surrender. "Right, you know yourself better than some stranger." It was more a jest than anything considering where Oscar has planted himself, but his insistence on his introversion drives it home. "I can be like that sometimes. Crowds don't always deter me, but I value being in smaller groups. Not exactly introverted, but not always extroverted."
It is all dependent on what he's doing. Concerts are tolerable because that is what he's there for, the crowd adds to the surge of excitement and fun, but if he was packed shoulder to shoulder in a dive, Fletch might just about lose his mind.
"Do you think—" he starts, taking a second to let those thoughts roll around there in his head so he can make sure his wording isn't any way negative. "That speaking in front of a class is easier, because you are confident in what you're speaking about, and because you have the control there?"
"Right," he nodded. Personally he was an easy person to know with his routines and everything, but he supposed that he wasn't like a lot of people. "I think small groups are nicer. The smaller the class sized the easier it can be not only to manage but to have an environment conductive to learning. Even though I'm teaching math and not something with opinions." He was an introvert through and through.
"I think it has to do more with that I'm passionate about the subject I'm teaching. Which, if you'd have told me I'd be teaching math when I was younger, I'd have looked at you like you were stupid. Art and history were my subjects, but I suppose that's what can happen when a teacher inspires you." Oscar shrugged. "You never truly have control over teenagers."
Sully didn’t have this problem with Summer when they were younger but he knew all of his sisters were different and there was no telling how sully would handle Sera getting older and wanting to date. He just had to sort of ask advice where he could and hope for the best. Cause he wasn’t a teenage girl and he also was just such a different personality than Selina was growing up. “ I do give her space normally. This isn’t the first thing she’s tried to keep from me. “ though he knew at the time she just needed to talk to someone outside the apartment and now she had that. “ I should do that. Make sure that the door is open for her so that when she feels okay to talk we’re already there. There was a few things she was asking me about before this blew up maybe I should go pick it up for her. Cause I’m not trying to judge her or anything “
“ oh no you don’t have to do that’s I feel like she’d notice and then I’d be in more hot water “ @oscarwatson
Oscar wasn't like his brother. They were complete opposites on the personality spectrum. Where Oscar had been slow to trust, Max was quick to gravitate to someone. "Hmmm. Well, I think then being honest is probably the best. Especially with gifts." Oscar knew that he was much different than a lot of people. "I don't know what else to suggest. I remember being in the same boat with feeling like I was invisible in my own house." And it wasn't a good feeling. "My dads weren't there to judge me though. They wanted me to be safe." He nodded.
Sam offers Oscar a slow nod, agreeing with what he had to say. "We aren't bound to one path. If we don't think the one ahead fits, we can take the detour." Or, another way to look at it, that butterfly effect, where one small shift can lead to an extensive number of deviations from the original plan.
"I think so. I think pursuing education as a whole is ambitious, and not in any sort of 'you'll be in over your head' way. It's admirable, too," Sam adds. "I'm sure you'll figure it out."
He looks back over the table, noting other folks perusing the boxes of produce and spices. Sam greets them with a warm smile, and his attention is back on Oscar so that he can finally weigh out his picks from the box of older vegetables.
"Aside from these, is there anything else you're looking for? Maybe a pumpkin or a gourd for the fall aesthetic?"
Oscar hadn't been sure what he wanted to do when he was younger. Teaching didn't seem like something he'd have ever picked for himself, but he couldn't imagine himself doing anything else now. "I don't like the detours personally. I like a clear path." Which is why a lot of issues were annoying for him.
"That's true. I don't really have any sort of timeline. It was something I was thinking about for later on in my career." And it was not necessary to be a principal or anything, but he thought he'd enjoy administration at some point in his career.

"I don't think I'd be able to do it either," Benj admits. "I was in school right as the internet was on the rise. I had to hand write papers in middle school." Fortunately, the introduction of typing courses and allowing printed essays from word documents became more popular, and it made college more bearable than if he had to use pen and ink like in seventh grade.
He is always surprised to learn some people stayed close to home when it came to college. To him, it was his first taste of real freedom. He also desperately wanted to enjoy his college years with Ricardo at his side. "I left Texas and went to Berkeley, so I lean towards travel. My parents did move to San Diego, so they're closer than when I left them in Dallas."
Better for them, really. And far enough they don't smother Benj.
With the shake of his head, Benj laughs lightly. "I appreciate your vote of confidence, but eh. I'll sleep on it."
Oscar laughed at that. There were some papers he had to hand write, but by the time he was in school, most everything was done online. Thankfully, but school had changed a lot since he was in it and it shocked him every day just how much it had changed. "It's wild how much high school has changed since I was in it. Which really doesn't seem like that long ago to me now, but would have shocked high school me." College had been easy for him.
"That makes sense. Berkley is a great school. My parents are here in Aurora Bay. We moved from upstate New York when I was twelve. I went to Aurora Bay College because I didn't want to leave home. And then Stanford for grad school." He'd probably do his PhD with Stanford. "Dallas seems so far away from here."
Oscar nodded. He was not the best for advice, but he did try. "Of course. Kind of strange being one of the more optimistic people in a room."
Oscar knew he couldn't keep plants alive to save his own life, but occasionally he got interested in things like a bamboo plants or an airplant and thought he could maybe be responsible enough to keep up with whatever it needed. They always ended up dying on him for some unknown reason, but he tried his best. "I give it about three months before most of it's dead," he sighed, looking at the little plants inside the terrarium. "I can't keep any sort of plant alive."
