From Fictional to Financial Crimes
The topic I am investigating is about Anti Money Laundering operations happening around the world in todayâs time, and how the TV show Ozark shows the widespread vulnerabilities within casinos and shell companies. I want to dive into how Ozarkâs portrayal of the Missouri Belle casino illustrates the realâworld vulnerabilities that cash-driven businesses create in U.S. antiâmoneyâlaundering regulations. The overall purpose of my blog series is to identify the issues within anti-money laundering efforts and how the Belle Casino visualizes the vulnerabilities within the show. To help develop my argument, I show how Ozark shows key weaknesses in anti-money-laundering systems by tracing the background of the Belle Casinoâs use of improper financial reporting. âOzarksâ demonstrates how cash-intensive businesses such as casinos and shell companies blend real revenue with illegal funds, the negligence involved in weak oversight, and how to take advantage of high-volume casino financial systems. There are plenty of examples throughout the show that are clear, which help to show, such as Martyâs scandal within the Casino Books, Wendy being shifty to shield the operation, and the cartelâs constant pressure forcing people to hide cash.
