After many, many hours of development, we’re ready to soft open! Please keep in mind that this is not our official open, so while we believe we have finished everything, there are likely some things we have missed, and we welcome you to point out anything from typos to broken links to anything else not working or simply appearing off. Still, you’re more than welcome to make characters and start roleplaying - just if anything appears incomplete, let us know!

While normally, we will not require use of discord (and we will announce our formal opening later on), as a pretty vital aspect of soft opening is ensuring everything works, we want everyone participating in the site to be on discord so issues can be more quickly communicated and resolved.

HOLIDAYS

There are five major holidays per year, each aligned with the deity and the cycle of the moons, as there are five moons total. Each moon appears fairly similar and goes through three cycles averaging twenty-four days, however, every seventy-three days, they switch to make way for another moon seemingly located behind it - each glowing slightly differently with a barely distinguishable size difference, yet after a few years, all can easily distinguish them. 

With each moon attributed to a different deity, the nights when the moons switch bring forth a holiday per deity, beginning with Photios and ending with Melanthios. 

JAN 1 - LUMEN

The followers of Photios lead in the ushering of a new year with the changing of the moon from the dimmest to the brightest, and the festivities occur both outside and within the Synhedrion, which is adorned with luminescent decor and various decorations permitting light. A great feast with some of the most expensive food and drink in all of Kairos is provided for free, and festivities last exactly six hours, the schedule of the night as rigid as Photios himself.

MARCH 15 - VERTUM

Being the humble deity he is, this holiday is less centric on Sostrate and more on the beginning of spring, which the changing of the moons officially marks. Despite the darkness, many use this night as a chance to revitalize central gardens in each district, and festivities are far less centered in any particular area, celebrated more with close friends and family. Personal growth is encouraged, and the reflection of the entire year before and establishment of resolutions is common

MAY 27 - AMAREM

Amarem is centered on lovers, this holiday one devoted to dates under the moonlight, with sweets and flowers from the Gardens of Eros common gifts. Couples watch the changing of the moon privately, and typically, those single or without partners instead celebrate familial and platonic love through the exchange of gifts and watch fireworks after the changing of the moon.

JULY 29 - POTENTIAM 

Though the change of the moon from Eros’ to Zosime’s is no longer than any else, Poteniam is the lengthiest holiday due to the events surrounding it - as the first night marks a large viewing in the center of Caprificus of the changing of the moon as the bishops of Zosime hold torches for the beginning ceremony, and then, there’s a large, rowdy party lasting until morning that thousands often participate in. After that, there are dozens of different events that any can join throughout the week, from physical sparring to rowing to archery to running, with a plethora of prizes to be won.

OCTOBER 10 - UMBRUM

BEYOND KALOPSIA — ATER MOUNTAINS

FOOTHILLS

The lower foothills of the Ater Mountains are generally green and lush with flowers, sparse trees, and tall grasses. They are home to a variety of animal and are a popular hunting ground.

BURIED SETTLEMENT

About halfway up the mountain range, in a leveled out area overseeing the foothills below, once existed a settlement created by a group from Kalopsia looking to expand. They considered this location optimal, until a horrible avalanche buried everything. There were no known survivors, but except in deep snow, the ruined structures can be seen where they were left.

BEYOND KALOPSIA — CALIGO FOREST

SILVESTRE

Off of the main trail through the Caligo Forest, a small settlement exists in part on the ground, and part in the grand trees themselves. The settlement began as a hunter’s outpost and has since expanded as a permanent residence for some who dislike the city life offered by Kalopsia. At each corner of the settlement are watch towers hidden in the trees, manned in shifts day and night, and there is only one clear path in through its spiked wooden walls.

LAKE OF SELENE

A small, still, and quiet lake near the center of the Caligo woods rests in a rounded clearing. On a clear night, one of Kairos’s four moons can usually be seen reflected almost perfectly in its reflection. Some say that drinking from the lake on a full moon will grant you a blessing from Sostrate himself; others insist that if you spot a horned pegasus drinking from the lake on a starry night, you and your descendants will experience wealth for the next three generations.

THE WILDWOOD

BEYOND KALOPSIA — HARENA DESERT

THE REPOSITORY

Deep in the southern portion of the Harena Desert, a valley exists that, at first glance, looks like something of a garbage dump. Not a soul lives nearby, and items are piled together in a vast area of space with little room to exist between them. Closer inspection reveals just how different the items are from each other, though, and how foreign most of them appear to the world. Could these be relics from the worlds the gods have opened up? Could some of the once-belongings of the newcomers exist in this great repository, discarded by the deities?

OASIS

To the northeast area of the desert, days and days of travel from the beginning of the sand, a bright spot of green and blue stands out from the wasteland around it. The oasis is several miles across, with a crystalline lake of water to be found at it’s center, full of fish with the surrounding ecosystem supporting other wildlife. The oasis is unsettled by humans and is not charted; it only exists to most as a vague rumor.

GOLDEN HILLS

Between the edge of the desert, the Repository to the south, and the Oasis to the north, exists nothing but rolling sand, like an ocean. It stretches for hundreds of miles, exposed to the scorching sun and prone to harsh sandstorms. This area is not thoroughly explored for a good reason, though there may be some rare creatures who call this area home.

BEYOND KALOPSIA — CHRYSEUM COAST

THALASSA SEA 

The Thalassa Sea expands from the western coast of the known continent and the City of Kalopsia. While its boundaries are unknown, it is relied upon for the fishermen of the city. The water is of a beautiful blue, able to be seen through near the shores but not so at greater depths. Sailors sings songs of the creatures that are said to exist far from any shore.

ADAMAS ISLE

About an hour by boat from the docks of Kalopsia will bring one to the shores of the Adamas Isle, the largest island where a small settlement of sailors and fishermen rotate throughout the year. Beautiful and lush, and several miles across, it is home to an ecosystem of its own with tropical jungles, waterfalls, and caverns to be discovered.
