He makes a face at that. “Helped or not, feelings are weak. Too complicated.”

the other’s words surprise orf. this was coming from the guy who would do anything for his best friend and anything to protect the city. or so she thought. “what ?? what about your friends ? do you not like them anymore ?”

“nah, orf, we’re the good guys. we aren’t supposed to do that…injuring him is fair game though, i think.”

orf couldn’t help but smile at the thought of injuring the stranger. ever since being reprogrammed by the mad king, orf had been a bit... off. it also didn’t help that her creator wasn’t by her side and she was instead influenced by x-ray and vav. “we are the good guys !! good guys protect people.”

Nora resisted the initial urge to whisper a sullen ‘i know’. Forcing a brilliant smile, she instead immediately switched to a playful tone. “Alright Ms Grumpy Grump. Not with THAT attitude it wont!”

orf furrowed her brows at the other’s words. “what is a GRUMPY GRUMP ??” the robot had also not yet adjusted to tones of voices, so the way the other was speaking wasn’t obvious she was just playing around. “i have no attitude !!” a pause. “what is attitude ?”

“i am sorry, i am not familiar with the term ‘erumpent’. are you speaking english ?”

And those words were the one’s that put the final piece of the puzzle together. Of course it was Orf, what a surprise— he’d take the robot over any of the others if just for the fact that she was so simple minded. He chuckled, looking at her with an expression of mirth. “Ah, of course not. But, it might be more beneficial to you if you did, Orf.” He clasps his hands together with a small smirk. “I admit, I did not quite recognize you as you are at first, but there aren’t many people or robots that talk the way you do.”

“i did not recognise myself either ! every window i passed was like a nice surprise !” orf smiled to herself as she remembered her first day in her human body. “you look very different too ! i am just lucky you had your crown on. you are more easily identifiable with your crown. but with a real human brain i am hoping to identify faces better !”

Seeing the immediate reaction to his words told Vav no, Hilda wasn’t around, and ORF hadn’t found her yet. “ Hey, it’s all right, ” he told her, reaching out and placing his hand on her arm. “ She’ll turn up. Just like X-Ray. ” Both of their best friends were nowhere to be found, and to him, it kept them together. “ It’s sorta funny, findin’ people with purple hair here, huh ?? We never had that kinda thing in Achievement City. ” He chuckled. “ I think Hilda was the only one who had it. ” It was his attempt to make the little bot-girl feel better. “ Have you seen anyone else with different-colored hair ?? I saw a girl with bright pink hair a couple days ago. ”

orf watched his hand reach out for her arm, slightly relaxing at his touch. that was something else she appreciated about being human-- touch. comfort in touch. she gave a small smile as he continued to speak, directing her attention from her arm to his face. “hilda was indeed the only one who had it-- there are so many hildas around here. but none of them are HILDA.” hearing his question, she pushed the thoughts of hilda out of her mind and began to think. “i saw a man with bright green hair walking beside a girl with bright blue hair !”

“i told hilda that there was no way the stupid transporter thingy would work, it was supposed to take me to vav but he’s nowhere to be seen.” x-ray didn’t have a specific reason for whining at the girl other than the fact that she had been the closest person to him when he arrived. “have you seen anyone around here with a british accent? possibly wearing a superhero costume.”

as soon as she heard the other speak of her creator, a large smile found its way to orf’s lips. “you know HILDA ??” orf quickly turned to look at the other. he looked familiar, and she knew the description. “are you xray ? you must be looking for vav ! he is around here somewhere !”

“VAV ? he is nothing but a goofy superhero ! besides, he has a pretty journalist companion !”

The exclamation caught his attention, tilting his head slightly as he turned his head to look at the source of the voice. The Mad King was slightly amused, though there was something that struck him familiar about the way she was speaking, though he couldn’t quite place it. He watched her with a scrutinizing gaze as he tried to figure out what exactly it was about her that stood out to him. “I see. That is very helpful, thank you for your assistance, miss. Might I suggest that you try to not speak of people in third person? It makes you stand out rather obviously.”

“i was created to assist !” she told the other with a smile, momentarily forgetting she was talking to her creator’s enemy. “it is unlikely i will fit in anywhere in this world-- it is unlike achievement city and i am without hilda.” it hadn’t occurred to orf what she had just said, and it probably wouldn’t until the other’s reply.
