What are some Cast Recordings you recommend?
I have to ask, what are some cast recordings you would recommend? Broadway Vs. West End? Revival vs. OG?
For me I would have to say:
I have to recommend the 2008 A Chorus Line Recording and the OG Sunset Boulevard. With A Chorus Line, I love that this recording has a lot more dialogue snippets than the original so it's easier for people to understand why Cassie is singled out and why her solo is as impactful as it is. There's also just a lot of funny lines. I get why they don't include Paul's monologue but it would've hit home. I am praying that a revival comes to Broadway considering its 50th anniversary of the OG was recently! + perhaps a proshot.
For Sunset, I just find Glenn Close to be a better Norma Desmond. It fits the premise of the original film too. The idea of a silent movie star refusing to let go of the past and succumb to that early morning madness is perfectly captivated by Glenn's delivery and performance on stage. (I recommend viewing the 2017 recording where she's older as well). I also adore the musical leaning into the camp that a lot of ALW musicals have, which I feel is missing in the revival. Idk, I just love Close's Norma Desmond and feel it needs more attention. here's to hoping for that Sunset Boulevard movie to just come out already.
