In occult practices, the Major Arcana are the trump cards of a tarot pack. There are usually 22 such cards in a standard 78-card pack. These cards represent universal experiences, archetypal powers, and major thematic patterns in our lives. The intrinsic meanings of the cards are the same regardless of deck or spread, except when the card drawn is reversed, in which case the meaning is inverted.
