“I would say it’s nice to see a friendly face, but it seems like you’re trapped here, too.” 

There’s a heavy sigh of resignation that leaves, following the steady slope of Lapis’ shoulders. It’s more than a little annoying, being re-homed over and over again like someone else’s pet. First, it was the mirror, then she was forced back on Earth, and she made good on her promise to stay on Earth in the worst way possible.

Truly, the universe was laughing down at her. It was only amount of time she fell back onto the path of self-destruction, barely holding it together in her new surroundings. 

Still, it was nice to see him. Their last encounter had them parting ways in tears, and she could still remember how the salt tasted in her tongue, how her eyes had burned.

Lapis cracked open an eyelid, noticing she was no longer alone. She supposed meditating in the middle of a street was a strange way to find peace, but she’s committed to it, and had attracted company thanks to it. Seated in the lotus position, she’s basking in the rays of the city lights. The downtown area illuminated by Earth-like buildings with the Gem-like austerity she was used to. The city was most beautiful at night, even though it was effectively a prison. How strange, how she had traded one prison for another, again and again.

It beats the moon any day, though.

The food market was filled with beautiful greens, reds, oranges, and rainbow of other colors. However, Lapis only had a hand at farming for a year tops. There’s so much produce, it’s overwhelming. Much of the spices and fruits and vegetables are foreign to her. And everyone’s palette back home was different. She knew for a fact that one person absolutely needed to eat tiny foods and, well, she didn’t need to eat period. Didn’t know crap about what’s good for humans. Lapis had tasked herself with grocery shopping for the night, because it gave her a reason to get out of the house, to make herself useful. But all she felt right now is lost. And thanks to her luck, there’s a human. She approached him at the risk of sounding foolish.

Tentative fingers spread together in front of her. “Am I in the way?”

“My Diamond?” There was no way. No way.

But there she was, Pink Diamond, in the flesh. How? When? Where? None of this is making sense. Ever since Lapis came here, she couldn’t tell what was real or not. She ran as fast as she could, tripping over herself before throwing herself in front of Pink Diamond’s line of sight. It really was her. Incredible. She’s encountered humans, machines, monsterous beasts, and other organics, but this is the first time she’s seen a gem. A gem who was thought to be long gone from this world. ---No, from her world.
