[ Tempted by the banjo after it was abandoned, but for irony's sake he went for the violin. Rosined up the bow and set about an opening warm up of an iconic bit of fiddle playing that Lucifer would no doubt recognise. ]
[Lucifer lowered his instrument and peered at Liron over his sunglasses. Just for a moment long enough to catch the ire in the look. That sure was his kid. and Rook's.
In response, he started up on Wonder Wall. Full irony. Uncringing.]
[ He would use a little magic, played as a quick little series of notes and a sung Note to summon a pair of similar sunglasses onto his own face, though his own chartreuse eyes were full of too much mischief and joy to make the glower work. Looking so similar to Lucifer out of host did give him some advantage; he could keep his mouth as steady as Lucifer, pulled tight or turned down, but he could never quite get the eyes right.
Very occasionally the incandescent rage, for a few moments, perhaps, but Liron had a healthy fear of his own ability to act on those feelings without meaning to, and didn't let them linger long where he could help it.
And then he was laughing at Lucifer's choice of song, and decided to join in and play along with it too.
He was very lucky and blessed to have a better childhood and general life than the paths Lucifer had trod.
He'd move into Mr Brightside next, if not stopped. ]

[ He is there and is gesturing at his little collection of various instruments. Music bonding time is being requested. And he is being kind by letting Lucifer choose his weapon first. ]
[Oh, hell, he knows this often happens, but he didn't have a strong preference today. So he picked up a banjo with a smirk to himself. Plucked a string or two then put it down. The picked up an acoustic guitar. He had a seat with it. Choice made.]

Liron would leave Merlin some handmade bread, some cheese he'd had brought over from home before he left, and a little card that would sing 'You're some sort of paternal figure in my life and I appreciate you and your mentorship, have fun while I'm away and make sure you talk to people who are not the chickens at least sometimes', as well as Liron having set a few fun prank charms around the cabin that would go off at random intervals and play a few silly animal noises, a modern alarm sound, and random bits from various Vines, Youtube shorts, Tiktoks, and classic TV show and movie memes.
Lucifer was getting a handmade mug whittled out of a fallen branch of some ancient oak wood, cast with a layer of gold on the inside. It wasn't a particularly fanciful or complex piece of whittling, but it had some acorns and a few oak leaves carved into it in Liron's best attempt at artistry that wasn't music. It had taken quite a few hours and some help from a few of his fae friends to repair damage when he'd done something incorrectly.
It would have a little glass jar of fresh honey in it, and an enchantment around the rim of the glass where it played the sound of Liron imitating various birdsong when you ran a finger around it. He also put some dark chocolate fudge brownies he'd bought from a summer market once he'd gotten back to the city in there.
Rook got a hand-woven hair band, to help keep his curls off his forehead in the kitchen, in a nice red-gold-purple-blue warp and weft, with a repeating white Celtic-style knot woven pattern through the middle, along with a small (requested specifically) bag of hair from a faerie who hadn't minded getting a summer trim, which Liron was assuming was related to a particular request from some customer or contact of Rook's, and a wooden ladle he'd carved from birch wood and while simple, it was at least smooth and with a decent bowl on it.
They'd get a shared handmade card saying 'Our family is weird but very loved' and decorated scrapbook style with pictures Liron had clearly cut out from magazines and old books (none of Merlin's) with a black bull with a black jaguar perched on its back (wearing sunglasses), a rook bird with a cooking bowl and spoon, a starling with a violin, a bored black cat with a big anime sword, a loafing Siberian tiger with a pizza like a halo over its head, a little white cat sitting on top of the moon, a chicken with a starry wizard hat, and a bunch of little hearts and feathers and music notes and random flowers and things he'd liked the design of.
Rook and Lucifer would get cheek kisses and hugs with the gifts then Liron would take to the yard to alternately sun bathe on Lucifer's rock with his wings spread out and play a few ditties on his violin or guitar when the chords came to him.
"Really? That's a shame. I... spend a lot of time out in the middle of nowhere studying magic with my mentor, so I tend to miss a lot that happens here. I'm back visiting my family for a bit though," he explained.
He did laugh at the description and nodded. "A bit, yes. I do write mine down, but my magic is... kind of weird, and so the music helps to... buffer it from just reacting to what I feel or think." He'd had to do a lot of work to control it and build the mental blocks to prevent any strong desire or feeling from tapping into that well of metaphysical power available to him.
"Oh? What kind of instrument is it? Strings? Woodwind?" He was very much a nerd about instruments, and eager to learn about ones that he didn't already know about.
"Well, if you swear it on your honour..." he chuckled, then nodded. "Okay, good. I mean, not that you need someone to go off-world, but I just-- you know. My parents would probably freak out if I went dimension hopping without telling them." Since she had mentioned she'd been... lost in other dimensions...
"Anywhere in this dimension is fine." More or less, anyway.
He tilted his head, hair falling to the side. "No, I think they do tend to frown upon that-- I hear it lowers the land value, and they can't be having that."
Liron would pack up the last of his things and sling the guitar case over his shoulder and swing it onto his back. "Is it walkable from here, or are we taking the subway, or?"
"Eh." She shrugged. Didn't particularly want to get into the whole Envy thing right now. It was nice to pretend Envy was just their cool shapeshifter parent for a while.
Weird magic? Awesome. So cool. Love that. Weird magic tamed by music? Fucking poetic shit and she's here for it. Hell yeah.
"Oh, um..." Taika made a face, then held her hands close together, sort of trying to mimic how she played the instrument with gestures. "It was sort of like a music box, right? With a crank on one side? You steady it either on a table or with your teeth, you just kinda bite the stand...Your other hand controls the notes...um, it's kind of hard to describe...there's these little sliding...things...and you squeeze the metal bits down so they strike the um...moving part..." She shrugged. "It was kind of...I mean, I loved it, but the amount of moving parts, uh..it needed a lot of repairs. I wound up leaving it behind a few dimensions back."
Then she laughed and waved it off. "I mean, people around here would have hated it, though. It used a musical scale that most cultures around here think sounds like shit. Probably go over better in um...India?" Microtones are more commonly used there, though there were plenty of other types of music she wasn't aware of that used microtones too. And to be clear, SHE did not believe microtones sounded like shit. It was a matter of taste. Western music can be a little inflexible.
"Ha, yeah, I wouldn't take some random guy to other dimensions. You really have to be ready to leave everything behind." Fal hadn't lost anyone lately, but...never could be too sure things wouldn't go sideways again someday. And Taika had lost a good many people in other dimensions. Not everyone could handle never going back.
"Um, I think it's walkable. But I've got long legs." Taika smirked, then started leading the way. "I think there's a gate nearby we can take, actually. You know gates? I figure if you know magic, you're probably on the up." She wasn't too worried about introducing new people to gate technology. Probably should be, buuuut...listen, she's not used to consequences sticking around for long.
The instrument description really was a surprise. He couldn't even clearly picture that. "Sounds like something between a jaw harp and an accordion, and a hurdy-gurdy...?" He blinked a few times, imagining it in different variations, what it might sound like. "It does sound quite complex... If you do ever remember or figure how it was made, I'd like to recreate one... I want to hear what it sounds like. Seems very interesting." He wondered if perhaps Ash might have a better idea-- knew that the Prince had collected some Indian influences over the centuries, and might have some kind of knowledge of instruments from the subcontinent that might be similar to work from.
"I can't claim to be overly familiar-- I've only seen two Bollywood movies, unfortunately. But... something to look into." Different musical scales and ways of playing meant more options for channeling his magic with more nuance, after all.
"I do appreciate that. Maybe when I'm a bit older or... more established. More competent at magic, at least. Maybe then I'd feel more confident to go... hopping through portals..." He could appreciate the sense of adventure and freedom but he was something of a creature of habit.
"I might be on the shorter side, but I can keep up," he assured her, quickly falling into pace beside her. His brow did raise at the mention of gates. "I am, yes..." Why she was familiar with them was a more confusing matter. He supposed his family and their direct associates couldn't be the only users, but he didn't think that they were extremely well known either, even amongst more unusual circles. At least whenever he came back it would be quick enough, he supposed. "I mostly use them to get too and from where I study for my apprenticeship."
"Oh, well. That does make sense. I'm slightly taller than one of my parents but still a lot shorter than the other one. The short parent genes seem dominant in our family." So much, Liron had thought, for the nephilim being described as giants. Not this one, and Jasper wasn't much better.
"Shapeshifter parent is cool. One of mine can but doesn't do it much." Least of all publicly, for Lucifer. And even then it was mostly into animal forms or a few 'set' options the Fallen was intrinsically drawn to.
"You could probably do a cool Godzilla costume for Halloween or something," he offered.
His brow did furrow at her mention of the atmosphere being potentially lethal if not for what she was, which... he wasn't sure of, but had thought it rude to just ask. "Right. I suppose people would have... had to adapt to those sort of conditions."
He nodded, definitely understanding the need to refine and work on magic to get it right. "I have to mess around with the spells a lot to get them to do what I actually want. Some of it is instinctual, but sometimes... I don't know if I'd say it wants me to play something specific, but sometimes I need to get a bit unconventional to get the right outcome. But even then, I usually end up having to practice it over and over before it approaches anything consistent..." It wasn't always a matter of play the right chords in order. He still needed to shape the more... metaphysical aspects of the spell. In some ways the music was just a way he found it easier to get the right thoughts or feelings or concepts in the right order.
At the offer, his eyes did widen a bit. He wasn't really... used to people just offering that sort of thing. Fae, maybe, but that was... more innuendo than not. And often in less pleasant ways. They had only just met... but he was intrigued and he didn't really get to talk to anyone sort of around his own age about magic much.
He looked at his guitar and its case and then nodded. "I don't mind packing up, like I said before I'm lucky enough not to need to live off people's tips. Is your apartment, ah, in this dimension or another one?" He didn't think that this would end up being a trap, but he was Lucifer's child and he was already on Heaven's watch list after the incident when he'd been very young. But he liked Taika and wanted to get to know her. So... he could have little a risk, as a treat.
"A lot of anti-shapeshifting stuff going around." Taika wouldn't go into detail on that, just stating it as a fact. Of course your parent doesn't shapeshift. Nobody does. "I'm still learning shapeshifting. My sibling Fal is a lot better at it."
But her ability to shapeshift could potentially explain her ability to survive a weird atmosphere. She wasn't totally sure if that was it. She's a cambion, not a scientist!
Taika listened intently about his way with magic, though her face screwed up a little about it. "That sounds...a little too abstract, for me! I like having written spells, it feels more um...you know, concrete? I guess for me it's something I'm already good at. I can play a little music, but um- only a uh- an instrument I haven't been able to find here." Much as she'd searched, after the original fell out of tune.
Yeah, that was a sudden offer! But that's just how Taika operates. "I'm not a serial killer, on my honor!" Taika snorted, crossing her heart as she said it. Mixing stuff up there, but you get the idea. "It's in this dimension. I'd have to get Fal to take me if I wanted to go off-world." She opened her phone and pulled up the address on the Maps app, turning it to show him. "It's...kind of an office building, buuuut...you know. Not a great place to kidnap a guy. I don't think the landlord would approve."
In fact, it was Lucifer's office building! What a coincidence!
"Really? That's a shame. I... spend a lot of time out in the middle of nowhere studying magic with my mentor, so I tend to miss a lot that happens here. I'm back visiting my family for a bit though," he explained.
He did laugh at the description and nodded. "A bit, yes. I do write mine down, but my magic is... kind of weird, and so the music helps to... buffer it from just reacting to what I feel or think." Liron would pack up the last of his things and sling the guitar case over his shoulder and swing it onto his back. "Is it walkable from here, or are we taking the subway, or?"
"Hey-- weirder things happen all the time here," he reassured her. Then let out a laugh. "I guess if you hadn't really been around regular humans, you would come to some pretty natural conclusions. Most of us are more... economy-sized, unfortunately. Though I usually have more trouble in the horizontal space, when I'm not, ah, being discreet." His wings weren't exactly small, when they were out. "But, hey, climb a tree with someone and you'd be at the same height then."
Liron's hand came up to half cover his face and in particular the grin he couldn't quite get rid of. It always looked a little odd on his features, in his opinion. Like his Fallen parent's face, it was more suited to seriousness or at least neutral contemplation, or smaller or more complex displays of positive emotions.
"Let's not get into an argument over who's worse at what-- I'm no Kendrick, unfortunately, and I definitely don't think you deserve anything like Drake in terms of diss tracks." He was, however, very fascinated by the concept of diss tracks and even older songs and poems and how they had been used to rip apart the metaphorical power of others-- and even in Ireland, he'd been reading, such spiritual slights against the King or another of high rank could be as impactful as a physical wound.
"I'd have to fall back on hackneyed, shallow digs at your height, which would get boring after the second bar, probably. Something about you blocking out the sun, or... stomping around like Godzilla..."
When she went back through the sketches, he kept a closer eye on them, tracing along the shapes and silhouettes presented. "An orange sky?" He wondered what made it like that-- light being different, dust in the atmosphere... "It is interesting that superheroes as a concept crop up in other places. Did they have more mainstream people with strange abilities, or still thought of as more of a fantasy type thing but just more popular?"
He nodded along at her explanation. "Garlic is a lot harder, even if you know to press on it first to loosen the outside and all the other little tips one of my parents has told me over the years. Plus the oils always linger if you touch them." Which wasn't a problem for Rook, but Liron didn't like spreading the garlic smell with his hands.
"This is really clever, accounting for the differences between garlic and oranges. I've been studying magic for a while, but I find that music is easier for me to channel it through. So songs or just instruments as well, or even whistling."
"Well- I was just a kid when I left. I remembered everybody being tall. Just...you know, didn't realize how much I'd grown." Whoops! It was funny in hindsight. Boy had she fooled herself. "My parents aren't even as tall as me. I mean, one of my parents is a shapeshifter, so I guess they COULD be as tall as me..." They never chose to be, which was...kind of annoying. Envy never accommodated for Taika. Sigh. Whatever.
Taika snorted hard and then laughed wholeheartedly. "No, come on! Godzilla? Your diss track makes me sound so cool." She wouldn't actually try to convince him to write a song about her, that'd be hella embarrassing just by virtue of being a lot of effort, but the hypothetical was very funny to her.
"Yeah, orange sky. It was pretty! But uh- pretty sure it would have killed me if I weren't...you know. What I am." Which she hadn't told him explicitly yet, but. "Apparently it was um- something with the gasses in the atmosphere? A lot of methane and ozone? Something like that. Um, there were a lot of batman types around! People were generally more uh- athletic, so..." She shrugged. "Lots of alleged superpowers, but I think it was mostly, you know, smoke and mirrors. But it was fun!"
She brightened and nodded. "Exactly! I don't always want garlic hands." Devang had been a bit skeptical and discouraging of her using magic to peel garlic, but see, Liron gets it! "Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it! I do still seem to lose some of the garlic each time, though. Still working out the kinks. Doing it through music seems really cool. Can you uh, improvise really easily? Have you ever found the music needing you to play a note you didn't like..?" So many questions about musical magic! It seemed odd.
And actually- "So, I know you kind of have a whole thing going here, but- you want to come to my apartment after this? You know, to be less discreet?" Taika is not afraid to make friends. "No innuendo, just magic!" She laughed, but she figured she prooobably didn't need to clarify that, considering how much she was talking about girls. Like, she wasn't COMPLETELY girls-only, but it was a preference, and either way that wasn't the point of the invite.
"Oh, well. That does make sense. I'm slightly taller than one of my parents but still a lot shorter than the other one. The short parent genes seem dominant in our family." So much, Liron had thought, for the nephilim being described as giants. Not this one, and Jasper wasn't much better.

"Unless you find someone who can float. Or someone who does the dryad stilt walking at Renn Faires or something like that. At least she'll never have to worry about losing you in a crowd." He did figure it must be a bit alienating, being that tall. But Liron was a generally positive sort, at heart.
"Okay. Well. Thanks for not being mad about it. But also don't-- don't draw me like that, it's not fair." He brushed a hand over his face, laughing. "I wouldn't write a song about you being embarrassed." He could, though. If he thought of a good tune for it.
He did wince about the career prospects. "I can't really talk, musicians aren't exactly a thriving industry either, these days." Ah, the woe of artists in the modern age.
He couldn't exactly claim to have much of an eye for the artistry of the pieces from a technical view, but he liked how neat they were and how evocative or well shaped the balloons could be. The superheroes did have the side of his mouth tugging up. "I like the heroes... I'm not much of a comic or TV or... movie buff... but are any of them yours, or are they fan art?" And then he'd point just above the spell, brows up. "Did you make that magic up yourself, or did you learn it?"
Magic he was more of a nerd about, apparently.
"Oh, man, floating? Like a literal superhero? Don't I wish." Taika gave a pshh and waved a hand. fantasy shit. Imagine. A stilt walker was a lot more likely. And super cute and silly. "You know when I was universe-hopping searching for home, I was fully expecting everyone to be my height? Boy was I surprised..."
Taika snorted, chuckled, and shrugged her hands. "Why wouldn't you? I'd be honored if somebody wrote a diss track about me, wow. I'm sure your song would be better than my drawing." Her drawings were...okay! She'd clearly seen a lot of superheroes, but she'd also clearly seen a lot of...interestingly proportioned superheroes. And some alien ones.
"Oh, mostly fan art..." Taika flipped back to a few of them, mouth pressed in a thin line over them self-critically, but she at least wasn't outright cringing. She had a pretty calm outlook on her art skills; that was just for fun. "But not of heroes from this universe. Mostly from...um. The other one, where the sky is more orangey. Superhero stuff was REALLY mainstream there."
The spell, she turned back to. "Oh, this? Sort of both. I found a spell for peeling oranges, and I adapted it for garlic. Garlic is way more trouble to peel than oranges, so it just made sense. It was a huge pain, but now I never have to peel garlic by hand again!"
She deflated slightly, thinking about that, but didn't elaborate.
"Hey-- weirder things happen all the time here," he reassured her. Then let out a laugh. "I guess if you hadn't really been around regular humans, you would come to some pretty natural conclusions. Most of us are more... economy-sized, unfortunately. Though I usually have more trouble in the horizontal space, when I'm not, ah, being discreet." Probably he could have phrased that better, but honestly, the relationship sort of 'cheating' was so much further down on his internal dictionary he did forget a bit that it was one of the more common meanings.
To explain in brief though, he made the wiggly finger gesture of 'magic' since that was close enough to his... empathetic nephilim senses, and what he suspect, at this stage, might be some kind of influence from Rook's mutation, at least in terms of the sort of synaesthesia sense it sometimes gave him.
"Maybe even a futch," he offered, nodding. "There's always goth, too." Gender and aesthetics were a complex mire, one he skirted around the edges of noncommittally.
He did blush at the laughter, though he could tell it wasn't malicious, at least. Still, an olive green tinge would spread across his cheeks and up to his ears. Though it would deepen and he would be quickly offering to replace the pencil before she cut him off and added it to her case. "Sorry-- I should have asked."
He was curious about the contents of her bag, but he also knew that prying was rarely welcome. He would look at the chocolate for a moment before he took one, flush receding a little. "Cheers." He was delicate in unwrapping the foil and taking a bite. Aside from Rook's delivered home-made treats and the things Miles brought by, Liron could admit to himself that he tended towards a more rustic diet. Bread, eggs, honey, milk, meat, vegetables, fruit.
But the peanut butter cup was good. He licked the quick-melting chocolate from his fingers. "I can still turn it back, if you want. You're an artist?"
"You're so right." Futch, goth, so many options. "But I'll always be the tall one." She shrugged and sighed. Doomed to crouch down to her girlfriend's level for eternity.
She waved off his apology. "Nah, it's all good. Magic green pencil, hell yeah! I'm keeping that thing forever. I can draw you blushing." She teased, although the shade of green wasn't QUITE perfect. Take what you can get!
"An artist? Um, a little! I mostly do lettering...I guess it'd translate to graphic design, which...oof, dead career path, right?" She pulled out the notebook and flipped through it for him. It was in fact primarily comic-style lettering and word balloons, although there were a few doodles of superheroes and such(not nearly as competent). There was some magic notes in there, too, most notably a spell for peeling garlic.
"Unless you find someone who can float. Or someone who does the dryad stilt walking at Renn Faires or something like that. At least she'll never have to worry about losing you in a crowd." He did figure it must be a bit alienating, being that tall. But Liron was a generally positive sort, at heart.

He didn't know what fandom brained was, but didn't see it being too bad, from context. Embarrassing, maybe? While he did occasionally have access to social media, he had other things that grabbed his attention, and they mostly revolved around music anyway.
"True, but I also cheat." Which he was not elaborating on at present. And instead would reach up to pat her sympathetically on the knee. "I am sorry for your loss. I am sure the butch of your dreams is out there somewhere, still."
Wow he was really, suddenly recognising the fact that he was A Teen/Young Adult and did not spend much of any time around other Teens/Young Adults... Was he being super weird right now? Everyone around him was so old, his birth-parent aside... The Rookery did have some younger staff, but he wasn't really super close friends with any of them, and they had known him as an actual infant, so it was also weird.
Oop. He needed to pay attention. Right.
"That's true. There's always another fish... to make friends with..." Wow. Wowowowow. Maybe he could smite himsel-- nope, couldn't even think about that.
Her question did throw him for another second, and he had just taken a breath in to reply when she made that pencil hover in the air, and he just nodded. "Yes. I do."
We're both clearly weird here.
Taking a quick glance around, he leaned his arm on his knee, hand up by his mouth to cover it a bit as he whistled a complicated little tune like the call of a song sparrow mixed with the main overture of a musical from the 1930s. It would just turn the pencil's colour green, but he thought that was subtle enough, though he hadn't meant to effect the graphite itself... But it was probably fine. He would use his tips to replace it if needed.
"Cheat?" Like....cheating on...people...? She gave him a real weird look for that one. Had to assume he meant something else, cuz that would be a super weird over-share.
Taika blinked at the sorry, then laughed and gave a wistful sigh when she caught on. "Somewhere out there..." The butch of her dreams. You're so right. "Or who knows, maybe the femme? I'm not that picky." The aesthetic doesn't actually matter that much to her, but she'd love a girl who could bench press her.
Liron's weirdness levels were of no concern to Taika; she grew up on a bunch of different alien cultures, struggling to relate to people her age or otherwise. Ultimately she turned out pretty confidently weird. Nerd culture definitely helped. It offered a often socially acceptable explanation for her weirdness.
She WOULD laugh at the fish to make friends with, because that is NOT the line you're looking for, dork. But she always intended to laugh with people, not at them.
The whistle was interesting. Why was he being secretive- oh!
Taika looked at the pencil with a big smile. "What the hell! You shapeshifted my pencil!" She did falter a bit though, holding it and looking at the tip...then at Liron...then back at the...green....tip....
"Uh- can you....change it back? Actually- no, it's fine. I still have a spare. And now I have green." She grinned and slung her backpack off her shoulders, sitting beside Liron and pulling out her pencil case to pop the new green pencil in with her small collection of various mismatched pens and pencils. She didn't have a full color set, but did have a couple well-used blue ones, yellow, and red. A few black pencils worn down nearly to stubs, and one fresh #2 pencil.
She didn't consider herself a colorist, but she wouldn't tell him that. It was a neat souvenir, and she did enjoy coloring from time to time to shake things up from her usual hobby of lettering and inking. Her well-worn sketchbook was in there too, already opened to a crumpled page of large graphic hand-drawn lettering. She wasn't precious with her paper, it kicked around in the backpack and got wrinkled and smeared. Not like she was selling it; it was all for practice. A book of magic was tucked in behind, and balled up clothes underneath. Oh, and! Reeses cups! Taika pulled out the candy, tearing it open and holding it out to him for him to take one. "Reeses?"
Probably he could have phrased that better, but honestly, the relationship sort of 'cheating' was so much further down on his internal dictionary he did forget a bit that it was one of the more common meanings.
Taika grimaced too, apologetic. "Shit, I guess I was asking for that. Sorry, I got too fandom brained." She is nothing if she's not shipping. This cute singer/the first male he mentions visiting in his life, she HAD to ship it! Of course it was actual family. This is why we don't ship people in real life. Or you know, make bold assumptions."I've met people with the queerest vibes who turned out to be butch homophobic truckers, so you never know!" Another reason not to make assumptions.
The crushes that died that way...the pain.
She caught his frown and shook her head, waving it off. "Don't be! I find friends wherever I go. If something doesn't work out, I always know I can find something new." No point in clinging. Easier to let it go.
Then she laughed. "This world, you know, as opposed to....Mars?" It was a slip up. Whoops! "Do you believe in multidimensional travel, Liron?" She knew how to stage it as a potential joke to laugh off if he'd think she's crazy. Whatever, people think she's crazy all the time when she forgets which universe of celebrity there is here.
"Or....magic?" She grinned as she flicked the pencil into the air and levitated it. Taking a little risky risk! She could play it off as a fakey magic trick if she had to. Wasn't like she'd never done magic to busk. People are willing to make up their own explanations for smaller tricks.
He didn't know what fandom brained was, but didn't see it being too bad, from context. Embarrassing, maybe? While he did occasionally have access to social media, he had other things that grabbed his attention, and they mostly revolved around music anyway.

"Oh no, I agree with you," he replied quickly. "I mean, I'm lucky I don't need... $12.76 to live off," he continued, giving the contents of his case a quick glance, "but other people shouldn't need to, either."
He did, of course, know the difference between necessary work and the grindstone of capitalist Hell designed to make it a little harder every day for people to just live.
"I love singing but I shouldn't, you know, have to build it up as a skill to earn enough to keep a roof over my head and stop from starving to death. Painting, cooking, yard work, whatever."
Clicked his tongue idly, letting out a little vocal stim of agitated chirps without really meaning to.
"Sounds like you've traveled a lot. I mostly just go back and forth between my parents' place here and where I'm studying with my, ah, uncle, out in the countryside."
"Yeah." She laughed. She could stretch $12.76 to the limit, but she was relieved to hear this was more of a hobby for him, what with the tight wallets around here. A voice like his only getting that much money? Didn't inspire a lot of hope for the trade, money-wise. But that's life. It's not talent that makes the money, it's knowing the right street corners and right times and the right songs, and persistence persistence persistence. Taika isn't very musical, but she's made it work before, when she really had to. "I'm glad you get to share it to share it. You have serious skill."
The chirps caught Taika's ear in a feline way. Made her ears want to twitch, but her ears were in human mode, so no twitchy twitchy. Did blink and tilt her head a degree curiously, giving him an amused look. How'd you make that sound? And why?
And! "Why do you say uncle like it's a code word?" She snorted, and grinned teasingly. "Do you mean your boyfriend? Don't worry, I like girls, I won't judge." She won't judge, but she WILL tease.
"Yeah, I've been around." Taika shrugged, spinning her pencil between her fingers again. "I got lost as a kid and never stopped looking. I thought I found home again, but..." She stopped, rubbing her thumb over the teeth marks in the wood. Then tossed it in the air and caught it.
"Eh, I don't like being tied down. I'm pretty good at figuring out how to make do wherever I am. Travel is fucking expensive in this world, though. And I haven't seen a rift in ages...." Her final gripe was under her breath, not really meant for his ears. Wished she had the rift jumping power that Falcata had. Wished Falcata felt like coming with her.
Oh well. She does well enough on her own.
"Hey, if you ever feel like getting out of here, let me know. That's one thing I'm good at, is getting away. I'm Taika." About time she introduce herself.
"Ah. Thank you. Lucky enough to have the talent and the ability to dedicate myself to honing it." There wasn't really a path he could see where he ended up at one of the prestigious music schools or performing formally-- not without cutting off part of himself, or the world was messed with enough to have people accepting him wings-and-all-- but at least his little live sessions in parks or in the Rookery let him have some part of that kind of life.
At her question his expression collapsed into a grimace. "No, no. He's technically my cousin, but he's older and uncle just fits better. You don't exactly give 'virulent homophobe' vibes anyway, so if I meant a partner I would have said." Huffed. He did have a fling out there, among the forest fae, but it was too mercurial and infrequent for a stronger word for their relationship...
Liron did watch that pencil, but found his frown deepening. "Sorry," he said. That she got lost. That 'home' hadn't been there to find her. "For the record, people here... don't usually call it 'this world', you know." Her height might have just been, well, innocuous variation, but that did somewhat cinch it as a reflection of some kind of Otherness.
"Liron," he replied. "Appreciated. I'll keep it in mind, but... I don't really have enough of a reason to run away. There's enough trouble to get into here and, ah, where my uncle lives... And I generally try and avoid that as much as possible." Well. "Within reason," he amended after a moment, a little grin on his face.
"That doesn't mean I don't like hearing about other places, though."
"I think the best part is that people listen at all," came his response as he fished his water bottle from the case, gratefully taking a few gulps down. "You're not wrong about the cops, though. But they're generally more reluctant to chase off someone with a crowd until they're done, at least."
At least, the ones that weren't total bastards, of which there were unfortunately more than a few.
A couple of other people did wander up to quickly drop a few coins or the odd note, offering a smile or quick thanks for the performance, to which Liron would offer a quiet smile and a 'cheers' or 'thank you for listening'.
"That is the trouble with money, though-- you do always have to pay to earn it somehow. Tools, tutoring, time," he counted off on his fingers, sitting back against the edge of the fountain, "unfortunately I can't think of a synonym for 'permission' that starts with a T."
"Sure," Taika grinned, stopping herself from laughing at him for being corny about it. It wasn't like she disagreed. Life isn't all about work; the simple pleasure of sharing a song was something she appreciated. Shared experience.
She did lightly roll her eyes though when he went on about money. "Okay, okay, buddy...no need to turn it into a lecture. I get it, nothing in life is free. Trust me, I know." She didn't mean it unkindly, just wasn't about to let this kid explain to her how getting money works in an overly optimistic manner, as if she weren't ever the eternal optimist herself. Annoyed today, sure, but generally speaking, she wasn't bothered she had to work for things.
"I just don't think anyone should have to pay for the ground they're standing on, you know? How many songs aren't getting heard because every square foot of land has a price tag and a guard dog?"
Taika sighed and waved that off. "Sorry, I just miss...y'know. Places I used to live. I used to see a lot more people like you around where I used to live. Where it didn't cost anything. And where the only way to HEAR music was live performance...or a music box, I guess."
"Oh no, I agree with you," he replied quickly. "I mean, I'm lucky I don't need... $12.76 to live off," he continued, giving the contents of his case a quick glance, "but other people shouldn't need to, either."

[ Took a long, slow breath in and then heaved it out, nodding once released. That was True, though he still had to fix things when mistakes did happen.
Did tilt his head and poke his tongue out, deadpan. Channeling Jasper, more than anything. ]
Don't worry-- I'm pretty sure your stubby whatever-passes-for-genetics have capped me off here.
[ He hadn't grown any taller in several months. Hard to say if he would have any further growth spurts, but the general growth-aching had subsided for now at least. ]
If this one ends up tall, I'm calling bullshit on it being my fault. [Ribbed back, small scar pulled smile on his face.]
I've already told Irene you and Jasper exist and may visit at some point. You shouldn't end up shooed off on sight. I'm more hesitant to bring you to the other Hell for Vic, but I do bring him home to the house often when Vox and his gaggle are tied up in work.
I weep for any of my half-siblings who end up shorter than you, Da.
[ Hand over heart. Head dipped down for a goofy-serious moment. Then he would look up and nod slowly, sighing some. ]
From what little I've heard, being more on the angelic end of the spectrum wouldn't be the most sensible thing over there... I probably need to be, y'know, introduced a few times so I don't freak anyone out, but if you do need babysitters for anyone... just call me.
[ He could... probably... manage to look after younger children. His mouth pulled taut as he briefly considered the shenanigans that anyone with Lucifer et al's predispositions and powers were likely to get into... A few hours, at least, he could probably survive. He did have magic to help, after all. And video games. ]
Whenever he came to the city, the crush of people inevitably became overwhelming. The constant focus of keeping his wings hidden, of trying not to react to every sound, every errant movement that spoke of danger in ways that even the darker of the fae woods didn't.
Parks, at least, offered some level of solace. And when he could take all those raucous sounds around him and drown them out for a moment with his own music? That was when he could find peace.
Rook had been all too amenable to knocking together a busking permit so that Liron could set himself up somewhere and think, or at least practice, and share his talents with others.
Today's arrangements were for his lute, fast-paced and bright like the sunshine, and the tremolo and vibrato of classical guitar playing. Not that he needed the money, but radiating positive vibes did tend to encourage tipping.
He was perched on the lip of a water fountain, wandering back and forth, dark hair tied back and fluttering behind him, spinning and darting about on clever feet (not nearly as clever as his hands, however), lighter than he should be for his (still rather diminutive-to-average) size. His voice came out in a clear, joyous chorus, of love, of life, of friends, of beauty, rising and falling across the musical scales; a bird fluttering along a perch, if not caged.
As his current piece came to an end, the last notes echoing across the grassy space and the komorebi of the late-Summer sun through the gaps in the maple tree overhanging the space, he let out a sigh and then a quick, pleased laugh at the call for an encore.
His gaze shifted to his audience, something he reserved for after his performances, and it had to quickly shift up by several significant degrees to meet the caller's gaze. His own bright chartreuse eyes reflected back in the light on (broken, he noticed) glass lenses, and his brows did shoot up under his bangs.
He didn't think he could recall seeing someone that tall who wasn't part tree before.
And not someone with so much lingering irritation and frustration clouding their aura.
Thankfully, his fingers were smarter than he was and started plucking out Hozier's 'Would That I' before his rude staring could linger further-- Hozier was always a crowd-pleaser, in his experience.
Don't ask him how he did the backing echoes without a mixer; it owed to the more avian structure of his vocal cords, and perhaps a smidgen of magic.
His foot covered the drum beat against the fountain's edge, until, at the end, he leapt high for the final notes, and landed before the open guitar case holding his permit and the tips that people had deigned to grace him with. His chest heaved, guitar held aloft, and dipped forward into a bow.
"I hope that was good enough to earn me a brief break?" he managed, a quick flash of laughter darting in at the end.
Wow.
She hadn't seen a performance like that in this universe. Her brows quirked and head tilted a little when she noticed the things that didn't seem QUITE plausible for a single person to pull off without some trickery. And he was so light, so graceful, it felt like he was dancing on magic strings, golden invisible threads.
Taika felt some temptation to ask him his secret, but she held back. A few too many times she'd asked crafts people if they'd used magic, and by now she'd learned she was absolute shit at sensing that sort of thing, despite her own affinity for magic. She was too easily inspired, and inspiration tasted a lot like magic to her. The average person will write you off if they catch on that you think magic is real. Not that she had THAT much shame.
Taika laughed and gave the stranger a thumbs up. "Hey, I'm not the boss of you! That's the best part about this sort of thing, right? Nobody gets to tell you when to stop." She grimaced though, and rolled her eyes. "Well, except cops on ego trips. God forbid somebody make money without paying for it." She saw the permit. Irritated he had to have one.
"I think the best part is that people listen at all," came his response as he fished his water bottle from the case, gratefully taking a few gulps down. "You're not wrong about the cops, though. But they're generally more reluctant to chase off someone with a crowd until they're done, at least."
