Being a Christian who operates on love, acceptance, inclusion, and progressivism feels like a rebellion these days when it just, shouldn't, because, you know.

I can't figure out what this is supposed to mean when people call themselves "christian witches". Why would you identify with something the Bible literally says is worthy of death?

where's the Muslim or Jewish version of this?

I am Asian but was raised Catholic, but my ethnic culture is impossible to separate from Buddhism, plus the Bible translation I grew up with obviously had Buddhist influences. I wonder how much of me is subconsciously influenced by Buddhism. I think that’s such a beautiful thing.

In the old days of Asia most educated people were monks, similar to how in Europe most educated people were historically part of a religious order. So one can see how their cultural mindset would affect their translation. I don’t have a copy so I can’t point to where exactly, but I remember reading the gospels as a child and noting how the translation sounded “zen” and emphasized peace in a way the English version does not.

It’s good to hear people’s arguments for theological diversity and to know where the text can be manipulated by people trying to update the Gospel to be more palatable to modern taste. Calling all LGBTQ people psychotic liars, for one. It’s neither true nor kind and not what Jesus would do. Our interpretations of the Bible do change, not to be more palatable to modern society, but to bring it in harmony with our understanding of things like science and ethics. It’s more important to follow the spirit of the law than the letter of the law. Modernity isn’t inherently evil. It’s why we no longer believe divorce is a death sentence, masturbating is mass murder of unborn children, menstruating women are “impure”, or that the earth was created exactly how Genesis described. It’s also why Christians should not tolerate slavery anymore even though it was accepted in the Bible and used during America’s earlier years to justify the practice.

It’s funny and sad you claim to have grown as a teenager when your posts still read as edgy and presumptuous. Swapping out opposite beliefs means change, but it doesn’t mean growth. Mindlessly repeating clobber verses is poor literacy and ignorance of the sociocultural context. Mentions of homosexuality in the bible are never about two consenting adults in love. Rather it referred to things like sex trafficking and pagan sex rituals. And do you still think women on their periods shouldn’t enter holy places as the Bible commands or is our modern understanding of menstruation just another evil palatable modern sentiment to make us fall farther from God? Any serious religious scholar will say not everything in the bible is meant to be followed literally.

I think if you sent an unclean person into the tabernacle because you felt God's laws were incorrect/unjust, you would find out very quickly where the actual problem was located like Korah and Cosbi did. God doesn't change. No serious religious scholar existed before 1900 who agreed with you. It's entirely a modern invention to pretend there is a gay version of marriage that is just as holy and valid as the sacrament God created in Genesis 2.

Why are you telling people things contrary to scripture? If this person is genuine, then you're sending them down the road to perdition.

You can call them clobber verses all you'd like, they're still Biblical verses. You can translate them a million different ways, anyone who studies Greek and Hebrew can see what it meant in the original sense. I don't really see the point in arguing with someone who thinks there is no wrath of God. If there isn't, what was the point of Christ's sacrifice? Why would I care about being considered wrong here when you can't even get the basics of the faith correct?

They're not the correct versions of those verses though. Also clearly you can't see what they really mean because you let your bigotry overpower your compassion. Also not you talking about wrath when you yourself were being wrathful (which is a SIN) towards the LGBTQ. Also God is only wrathful towards evil. Also I do know the basics of the faith, but you don't :)

I believe everyone can be saved btw. Yes, that includes murderers, rapists, and pedophiles. I have been a victim of some of these things. I have also seen the work and mercy of God work miracles and reform people who committed them. Praying for the people who did those things to me helped me forgive them. God calls us to forgive all. Leave judgement to Him. Pray for the most heinous of people. I know it's hard, I know, I know.

I find it so odd that the only real position people in Christian spaces online take is this one that overlooks verses like John 20:23 (If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”) and the man who committed adultery who was put out of the church and handed over to satan. Why is it people performing Christianity in public feel so much more comfortable defending child rapists as forgivable than they do actually considering that some people will not be saved? Scripture says many people will not be saved. "God has promised forgiveness wherever there is repentance; He has not promised repentance wherever there is sin."
