I donāt understand kid sections for food sometimes and not just because I have Arfid but whatās wrong with wanting to eat tenders as an adult, or mozzarella sticks, or like a pizza why do kids only get that happiness.

vampire diet is so appealing to me, someone with (probably) ARFID. you're telling me i only have to eat one thing to sustain me? and its a magical substance to me that fixes all my health issues and makes me feel like a million bucks?? and i can still eat other food its just bland or nasty??? where do i sign up
I've noticed that hating on picky eaters has been on the rise lately, especially on tiktok. I've seen people make fun of picky eaters and then later on say that "oohh this is only about bratty lazy people!!! i'm not actually making fun of people with ARFID and/or autism!!" while they were quite literally mocking and/or hating on symptoms of ARFID/autism.
and videos like those only makes safe spaces for people to be openly ableist. i have come across countless of comments of people telling picky eaters to "just eat".
it infuriates me how so many people can not place themselves in somebody else's shoes. i could go to the comment section of a tiktok post about ARFID right now and i'm sure 80% of the comments are ganna be people saying it isn't real and that picky eaters should just be force fed the foods that they hate.
i've seen people complain about picky eaters more than i have seen picky eaters complain about food. we might just seem like annoying lazyheads who want everyone to do as they say to you, but we live like this every single day. we have to live with people invalidating us and our disorder every single day. so of course we're ganna be angry, of course we're ganna complain aswell. because ya'll apparently don't like it when someone struggles with something that is just so easy to you.
As someone with ARFID, food based holidays are a nightmare.
There's been a few articles about ARFID in my proximity lately, and they all have comment sections, and I'd say 50 percent of the comments are neutral to good takes that make me feel like I'm recognizing something about myself that I can learn skills to overcome, and the other 50 make me feel so bad about myself that if I'm not careful that becomes my whole afternoon. And to that half, I'd like to say i can go so fuckin long without eating. "omg your kids will eat if they're hungry enough stop coddling them" you cannot imagine the ways throughout my life I have transcended hunger because the available food was a mysterious texture. Dinners were contests of will and I fuckin won. anything is possible when you think the concept of food is at best mid

Update on my arfid: I eat fish now!! I never in a million years ever thought I would. So far, I like fish tacos (battered or grilled) and eat sushi/ceviche (which is raw). For the sushi, I have to get a roll that has like other ingredients in it because sashimi was not for me to say the least. Too fishy. Trying sushi has led me to eat crab and shrimp for the first time!! I also love love love avocado now too. At first it was hard because itās greenā¦like why is she so green like that. But after forcing myself to try it here and there consistently, I finally now enjoy it.
It seems like if I try a food and I donāt freak, I can just keep trying it consistently and then itāll go in my reservoir of liked foods. This is huge for me. I used to be set in my ways. I know that may be a weird way to put it but I was stubborn. I accepted my arfid and didnāt see a point in trying foods when I hated the way everything tasted. Idk call it my tastebuds changing or something but this year Iāve progressed so much.
I think because Iāve had good experiences trying new foods, Iāve become a lot braver and accepting of weird textures. Never in a million years would I think I could enjoy calamari but here I am!
In a weird way, I feel like a phony member of arfid (even though Iām officially diagnosed) because I like new foods now. Definitely not all of them and I still get scared and overwhelmed to try things sometimes but the fear has lessoned. I also feel weird about wanting to not have arfid anymore. That may seem strange to say but it can be very embarrassing especially as someone who is almost 30. Even when I told my hairstylist I finally tried sushi, she was so shockedā¦society definitely makes you feel āchildishā because you like simpler foods. But I think the best part of opening up my palette is that the anxiety about your next meal, softens. When someone is asking to meet for lunch or dinner (my enemy meals bc I usually struggle to like these foods and breakfast I can eat pancakes and that is deemed as ānormalā), I can breathe a little easier knowing that at the very least most restaurants will offer a salad and I can just stomach that. I couldnāt say this for most of my life but now I can and I love that life is just easier now.
My next food goal is eggs!!! I really so very much would love to love eggs. I think liking eggs will make my life easier too. So letās see if I can stomach the taste!
One of my (least?) favorite things about telling people I have ARFID is when they hit me with āyouād never survive out in the wildā like yes!! Thank you!! I would not!! Itās a great thing that i will not have to do that anytime soon!!
its always fucking EATING you eat food and then you get hungry again and you eat food and then you have to eat more food and you run out of food so you buy food and you have to eat the food again WHEN DOES IT END
me several times a day
yeah yeah arfid is hell but you gotta admit it's also. like. kinda funny. no sorry i can't eat this bc the vibes are Horrendous. sorry. yeah id rather starve. why? ughhhhhhh

The post was someone asking "if you have ARFID, can you still eat pussy?" and half the comment section was like "hell yeah, safe food"
saying this as someone who has it but having ARFID is sooooo embarrassing especially when meeting new people. hi yeah i have an eating disorder no it's not one of the body image ones. yeah my brain arbitrarily decides whether food is Good or Bad or Contaminated or Other. yeah i don't eat vegetables yes it's juvenile no i can't change it. i swear to god i'm not doing it for attention even though it sounds like complete bullshit. sometimes i just Cant eat stuff. yes it frustrates me too
eating would be fine if it was only a recreational activity. instead, its a horrible sisiphean nightmare and you need to do it every day without fail on threat of pain and death
as someone with ARFID i really couldn't care less about the distinction between "picky eaters" and "genuine eating issues." if you are an asshole to someone you see as "just picky" i will never, ever trust you. i've lived through the trauma of being shamed and humiliated for my eating needs.
frankly i think a LOT of "picky eaters" have some kind of sensory problemsā autistic or allisticā and shame is never useful. i don't fucking care how annoying you think we are. if you've never lived through the humiliation of being the only one not eating at a dinner table, or having to choke down something disgusting you already know you hate because other people insist you don't know your own body, or getting a hunger migraine in a house full of food because none of its edible to you? you don't understand how awful it is to have food issues.
whenever i see people draw this distinction between being "just a picky eater" and "having a real problem" all i think is, who does this serve? most people don't even know ARFID exists. there are so many undiagnosed autistics, or just people with a variety of issues that aren't officially diagnosed. why do we need a medical label in order to be treated with respect and compassion? why did i need to be diagnosed as autistic for my family to realize the abuse they put me through for years because of my eating habits?
it's such an easy habit for neglected groups to fall intoā the idea that a medical diagnosis can save us. that by appealing to the medical/psychiatric industry, we can be protected from abuse and given basic respect and resources. but the truth is that it should never have come to this in the first place. dignity doesn't come from an abled doctor telling you that there's a medical reason for your symptoms. it comes from being a person. once you accept that you need a Good Reason to have your needs respected, you doom yourself to neglecting and abusing those who have your same struggles because they aren't lucky enough to access medical recognition.
tl;dr solidarity with all "picky eaters" stop guilting people for having varying food needs, if we make you irrationally angry that's YOUR problem not ours, and abolish "children's menus" & replace them with simple-food / small-portion menus for people of all ages
who else has fantasized about the Nutrient Brick

I think any and all places that sell any and all kinds of foods should be required to release some kind of statement before changing any ingredient in their food.
The worst part about having arfid is when restaurants get your order wrong and they donāt customize it the way you want and then your meal arrives and people say that you can ājust take it offā. š as if the essence of that thing wonāt ruin the whole mealā¦. Like sometimes it oozes onto your food and you canāt just wipe that away ā¦
Omg I think this was two years ago maybe?? I actually tolerate tomatoes now. I like them in a savory sense like in pico de gallo and salsa but Iām still getting used to them in burgers and sandwiches. Idk hate when they come off as more of a āfruityā flavor than savory. And yes I see the irony in that as tomatoes are fruit but ya know what I mean! Anyways, insane that a tomato doesnāt freak me out as much as it used to!! Iām proud of myself š
