My song "Stuck" came out Friday, so I decided to talk about it here.
This song came together in a very weird way. It started as just the intro bit, and then I just started riffing on top of the loop I had. At that time it was just the bass, the arp, and the humming.
To be honest I'm not sure exactly how I came up with the main vocal riff the first time. I had another demo from 2019 that used some of the same lines, so I'm guessing that's where I drew inspiration from.
Before we talk more about the song, listen to the preview below.
I feel like everyone at some point gets someone stuck in their head. When I started the song I was seeing someone and beginning to fall for them. Needless to say that by the time this song was finished we were no longer together. So this song and it's emotions to me are quite ambiguous. It simultaneously soundtracks someone's journey of falling for someone and the frustration of not being able to move on.
Understanding this, I wrote the middle verse section as ambiguous as I could. Not trying to pin an emotion to the thoughts, but rather just speaking of them.
Regardless, the ambiguity this song has achieved made it one of my favorites. The idea that it could simultaneously be a song about: excitement, catharsis, and heartbreak is just so cool to me.
Perhaps it's because I've felt all these things myself, and the confusion of it all is something I thought I only felt. It seems though that a lot of people struggle with this, so that's very comforting.
Thanks,
Christian (Lazed)
